“There are many of us that are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do little things.” -Dwight L. Moody

Dwight Lyman Moody was born on February 5th, 1837 and the following story takes place in the 19th century.

When Dwight Moody became a teenager, he left the boring little town he grew up in to go to Boston where he could make lots of money. He had never been on a train before, but off he went to the big city.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

When he got there, he started looking all over for work, but he could not find anything.

However, a couple of Moody’s uncles lived where he was looking for work. One of his uncles said that he could stay with him, but He could only do that if he promised to go to church every Sunday. His uncle would also arrange for him to work in a shoe store if he did this.

Moody agreed and started working at the shoe store. His Sunday school teacher encouraged him to read the Bible and to consistently go to church. However, he did not really understand this. He thought he would just make a lot of money in his life, and then when he was on his death bed, he would turn his life around. That is not the way it works.

On the day of April 21st, 1855, while he was working in the shoe store, Moody’s Sunday School teacher walked into the store and asked Dwight to become a Christian and turned his life around. He agreed. So, on that day, Christ turned Moody’s life around (repentance).

However, when he told his family about his new found faith, they did not want anything do with it.

Moody’s father died when Dwight was a young boy. His mother was one who sent her children to a Unitarian church, but didn’t become a believer until shortly before her death.

Because of Mr. Moody’s new faith, he started a Sunday school for poor children that he could find. Sometimes, people did not like having Moody around because everywhere he went he was asking someone if she or he was a Christian. His concern for their souls was not something that he could control.

During his life, he preached in churches, got married, had kids, and even met Charles Spurgeon. D.L Moody was a good man in the sight of God because his life was sold out to God.

Moody died on December 22nd, 1899, but now he lives forever with Jesus.
