Hi kids! J My name is Samuel Judah and I am 10 years old. Today, I am going to tell you about John Wesley, the great field preacher. John Wesley was one of a dozen kids. His parents made sure that all their kids were taught the biblical principles of Jesus Christ and the Bible.

One night, little 5 year-old John Wesley woke up to creepy noises. He always slept with his baby brother Charles, but when he woke up he didn’t know where was? Hmmm…? John knew how important it was not to sin, but he thought to himself, will it make me sin if I get up to see what the creepy noises are without the nursemaid’s permission? The noises were getting stranger, so he had to look. Finally, he opened up the door to the hallway when suddenly he saw gigantic flames! The house was on fire! He went back to his room, but the fire had spread to his room too. He realized his only choice was the window, but the window was too high. However, there was a dresser right next to the window, so he opened the drawers and climbed it like a ladder.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

When he tried to open the window, the window was stuck! Everyone else had safely got out of the house but him. He saw them through the window, so he hammered on the window so they could see him. Suddenly, two men that he saw disappeared. John did not know what they were going to do. Out of nowhere, a hand grabbed his arm and jerked him out so hard that he passed out. When he woke up, he saw all his family’s faces and they were all so happy! John knew no one else could have saved him except God the Father. Since John knew God had saved him, he wanted to make sure that he did not do anything to displease Him.

When he got old enough, he went to the University of Oxford in England. When he was a full grown man, he told himself, “I will indeed become a minister of the Church of England” (just like his father was). John was a part of a club at Oxford, along with his brother Charles and some other friends, called the “Holy Club.” The members of the club would go to the poor and needy and those imprisoned to teach them about God.

John was doing all this to try to please God, but he never felt it was enough to be worthy of being called one of God’s sons. John thought good works would be enough to save Him from hell (a place of everlasting fire and torment where God puts those who do not listen to Him, and obey His commands out of a heart of love for Him here on earth). However, we’re not supposed listen to God because were afraid of going to hell, but because we see the sacrifice of what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross!

A man named Peter Boehler invited John to a Bible study. Although John did not want to go, he went anyway. When the Bible study was almost done, they read a Scripture passage from 1 John 1:5-8. When John heard that Scripture, he felt his heart strangely warmed and was soundly saved forever! From that point on, John went through trials and tribulations constantly to make sure that the Bible was preached throughout the world.

He traveled by ship and also on horseback and rode his horse for over 250,000 miles to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served God his whole, entire life until the time of his death in 1791. John Wesley lived to be 87 years old. Amen! Thank you kids for taking time to read the Story of John Wesley with me.
