HHS Secretary Tom Price Advocates for more Socialism in Senate Healthcare Bill

On Sunday Health and Human Services Secretary, Tom Price, made an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union to talk about the GOP’s latest whack at solving our healthcare problems.

Host Dana Bash began by showcasing video of Senator Dean Heller (R-NV), complaining that the GOP bill would not lower premiums before asking Price if Heller was right. Price tried to explain that the GOP effort to reform (not repeal and replace) Obamacare would be multi-pronged, and that the Senate bill was just one aspect of their efforts.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“What I’m telling you is the system, the plan that we would put in place, would not allow individuals to fall through the cracks. We would not pull the rug out from under anybody. We would not have individuals lose coverage that they want for themselves and for their family. We want to make certain that health care is available to all Americans. Right now we have 28 million Americans who are uninsured. Is that a plan that works for patients? That’s the kind of thing we’re trying to fix.”

Later on Sunday, Dr. Price took his message out to the people. He appeared at the Aspen Institute’s Ideas Festival where the focus was on Health. He sat with Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic and talked through what the Trump administration was trying to accomplish by reforming the failing Obamacare system, and how the Senate bill could be a step towards making healthcare in America better for everyone.

The Trump administration is doing everything they can to work with the GOP leadership in Congress to pass something – anything — that might help patch up our ailing healthcare system. Sadly, because the administration is more moderate when it comes to solving healthcare, we may end up with a final healthcare solution that is actually just a “lite” version of Obamacare.

It seems that some moderate Republicans are happy to have “some” socialism… as long as the GOP gets to say how much.
