Jerry Falwell Jr. Stirs it up with “End those Muslim” Comments

Those of us who carry a firearm do not do so because we want an opportunity to use that weapon on another person. There is, I suppose, the rare few who think that they want to have to draw their gun, but most of us have just simply decided that we are not going to be victimized because we are unarmed. When we live in one of the few countries in the world where self-defense is recognized as a right, we exercise that right.

So, when most people hear someone express their willingness to defend themselves and others, it can sound strange. It can sound almost like boasting. It might even sound as if that person relishes the idea of doing so. And this was the case with Jerry Falwell, Jr.

Christian News reports:

The president of what is purportedly the largest Christian university in the world remains unremorseful after concerns were raised over the spirit of his comments about “ending Muslims” that he made to students and faculty at a convocation on Friday, which also drew applause from those gathered.

“I’ve always thought, if more good people had concealed carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in and killed them,” Jerry Falwell, Jr. said on Friday to unreserved applause in speaking about Wednesday’s San Bernardino massacre.

Now this kind of talk bothers a lot of 21-Century people. We do not want to sound brass or violent. To talk about killing others is strictly seen as un-Christian. And there were some who took exception to the tone and content of the Christian leader’s words.

Christian News continued:

However, when some became aware of Falwell’s statements, they expressed concern about the spirit of his statements in killing Muslims.

“My administration is committed to making Virginia an open and welcoming Commonwealth, while also ensuring the safety of all of our citizens. Mr. Falwell’s rash and repugnant comments detract from both of those crucial goals,” said Gov. Terry McAuliffe in a statement. “Those of us in leadership positions, whether in government or education, must take care to remember the tremendous harm that can result from reckless words.”

The Governor of Virginia apparently has bad reading or hearing comprehension. Falwell never mentions taking the fight to the Muslim. He never discusses retaliation on anyone. What Falwell says is, if they come here, they will get what’s coming to them. Not let’s go give it to them. No, McAuliffe is like the rest of our politicians, spineless and worried about votes. He cares not if these students are safe. He just wants to make sure that the Muslim community of Virginia does not think that he supports such words.

However, if these Muslims care about all people, why would they have different views? Why would they not think that these students should be encouraged to defend themselves? The reason is that though they may never support or participate in these horrible crimes, they are not opposed to their ends, which is the conquest of the world by Islam.

But McAuliffe was not the only one concerned.

Christian News reports:

Some online commenters, while supporting the Second Amendment, also disagreed with how Falwell expressed his views.

“I think Falwell has made the situation more tense rather than less tense by his choice of language,” one wrote.

“I’m trying to imagine Jesus saying what Jerry Falwell Jr. said,” another stated. “I’m having trouble. I don’t think Jesus would be big on the tough talk or brag about the gun he’s carrying.”

Maybe this commenter is unfamiliar with such verses as:

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Matt. 10:34

“And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.” Luke 22:36

“He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations; 27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Rev. 2:26-29

In this last quote, Christ is speaking to the Church about the authority given Him by the Father (Ps. 2:9). This authority, He was giving to the faithful, to rule the earth. How were they to rule? Not by allowing them to kill us. Christ was meek and lowly while on earth, but He is going forth conquering and to conquer (Rev. 6:2).

Those Christians who choke on what Falwell said do so because they over emphasize the meekness of Christ and down play His role of Conquering King. This pietistic view of Christ has led the Church to forfeit her birthright, which is the nations.

I applaud Falwell for saying what he did, and I sincerely hope that other Christian leaders will be so bold.
