“Ye shall know them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:16
And how true it is? People can talk all day, but truthfully, it is their actions you should be looking at. I John 3:18 says, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
We, as Christians, should be bearing fruit everyday in action. Even trees are known by their fruits! So, why should we be any different? God has called us all to be fruitful, but some of us continue to remain barren. There’s an obvious reason for that. If a tree, for example, isn’t bearing fruit, it’s got to be dead somehow. The life giving sap that sustains the tree must have been cut off.
You see, the only way that a tree can bear fruit is if it’s abiding in the vine with its roots deep in the soil of the ground and sap flowing through it to every part. In the same way, if you call yourself a “Christian” and are not bearing the fruits of righteousness, holiness, purity and all the other fruits of the Spirit that go along with it (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance – Galatians 5:22-23), then you must ask yourself the question, am I even in the vine?
Catherine Booth (Who co-founded the Salvation Army along with her husband William Booth) puts it like this in her book “Aggressive Christianity“:
“You can be like a branch. You can get so much Scriptural knowledge that you can look just like a real Christian. Alas! You can get many of the feelings of a Christian, and of the sentiments, as well as a great many of the aspirations and desires, of a Christian. You can be so like a branch that nobody, but Jesus Christ, may know you are not in that true Vine, and yet you have never, as the Apostle says, been grafted on to the olive tree. You know what the branch is when it is broken off? It is a branch. It retains the form of a branch; and for a while, the beauty and the greenness of a branch, but it is broken off. There is no power in it. Suppose it could maintain that form. Alas! human branches often maintain their verdure in a certain beauty, as when first lopped off, but it can never bear fruit. Why? Because the communication is cut between itself and the vine, and there is no sap in its fiber. Its life is cut off. Now, my friends, you can see why a soul, who has never been truly united to Christ in this living spiritual marriage (as the Bride of Christ), cannot bear fruit unto God.”
You are either in the Vine or out of the Vine. There is no in between. You are either in Christ or not in Christ.
John 15:4 says,
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me, I am the Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.”
If you are a true Christian and servant of Jesus Christ, people should know that by what you do, not by what you say. You don’t need to walk around wearing an “I Love Jesus” t-shirt, people should be able to “…see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven” (Matthew 5:16). They should be able to see the fruit of your union with Christ every day, evidently set before them that they may “…taste and see…” by your lifestyle and by the fruit that they are able to pick from your tree (which is Christ living in you and through you) “…that the Lord is good…” (Psalm 34:8). So, the questions to ask yourself is, are you a fruit bearing Christian?
Or are you a dead barren tree that professes to know God? Think about it.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
