A fire chief from Santa Rosa lost his home in the California wildfires as he was busy protecting at least eight other nearby properties in the area.

As a result of his heroism, his colleagues came together to set up a YouCaring page on his behalf and the outpouring of love for the fire chief was incredible!

Tom Welch, a fire captain, paramedic, and a fire marshal of the Mill Valley Fire Department, revealed the loss of his home during his battle to save others’ homes.

KTLA reports:

Welch, now the fire chief of the Mill Valley Fire Department, is coordinating his department’s response to the wildfires blazing through Northern California — even as the flames have laid waste to his own home.

In a statement on its website, the city of Mill Valley said Welch — a Santa Rosa resident — lost his home to the Sonoma and Napa fires.

His family is safe, the city said.

As of the writing of this article, Chief Welch has received over $73,000 from over 530 supporters.

However, the donations will also help other Mill Valley Staff who have been impacted by the wildfires, according to the page.

“We have learned that Mill Valley Fire Chief Tom Welch, a resident of Santa Rosa, has lost his family home due to the wildfires in the region,” the statement on the YouCaring page reads.  “At this point, we are still learning how other City of Mill Valley employees are impacted. Donations will go to help Chief Welch and other families. Thank you.”

The wildfires have taken a back seat to both the Las Vegas shooting and the NFL protests.  Yet, they claimed at least 23 lives so far and untold millions of dollars in damage.

These wildfires are a yearly occurrence and often lead to forced evacuations.

They have resulted in power grid failures that have become a serious critical catastrophic event.

However, the wildfires that are blazing right now, are “among the most destructive fire events in US history,” according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

However, one thing that should be noted is that a lot of this could seriously be reduced if we simply told DC to stop usurping their constitutional authority in claiming land unconstitutionally and then attempting to “manage” it through the likes of the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.

Obviously, it’s things like these wildfires that demonstrate that they cannot manage the land well.  They are simply controlling the people on the land.

Idaho Congressional candidate Michael Snyder writes, “For years, I have been writing about the alarming increase in the intensity of wildfires all over the country.  One of the big reasons for this is the fact that the federal government is not properly managing the lands under their control, and so wildfires tend to burn more rapidly on federally-owned lands.”

“It is time for the federal government to start turning over ownership of these lands to the states, and that is something that I plan to fight very hard to accomplish,” Snyder wrote regarding his run for office.

The wildfires could be preemptively and significantly diminished if the land was turned back over to the people instead of just letting it be.

Furthermore, from the Christian perspective, it would also allow for mankind to actually continue the first commands God gave when He created man.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created He them.  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. -Genesis 1:26-28

That command was not given to governments, but to individual men.  Our foundations are based on the Bible and we really should start getting back to those original foundations.

In the meantime, the outpouring of love for this fire chief and others is another one of God’s mercies in the midst of tragedy.
