In my opinion, this is why trials need to be speedy in the sense that they occur almost immediately. A Baton Rouge, Louisiana man was arrested for allegedly raping a woman he had been dating. However, the man was out on bond for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Mark Ferguson, 49, was arrested by police on Thursday after he allegedly raped a woman in October that he met on Tinder in August.
WAFB reports:
According to the arrest warrant, Ferguson, also known as “Fergie Ferguson,” and the victim met on Tinder in August. It added the victim pulled away from Ferguson when he tried to kiss her on October 10. He allegedly “slapped her in the face and pushed her onto the bed.”
The report states Ferguson then raped the victim as she repeatedly “said no and screamed.”
The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison reported Ferguson was booked on a charge of first-degree rape. Bond has not been set.
However, according to The Advocate:
Ferguson is currently out on a $100,000 bond in a first-degree rape case from 2017, where he is accused of raping an 11-year-old girl two years prior.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III said that case is still pending in court.
This is not Ferguson’s first or even second violation of the law. In 1992, according to records, he was arrested for indecent behavior with a juvenile. At that time, he was sentenced to probation.
What should have been done was that he should have been dealt with justly and he would not have been around in 2017 to be charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl nor the rape in 2018 of another woman, and we aren’t told the age of the victim in the latest allegations.
Had the judge in 1991 actually provided a just sentence for Ferguson’s crime, we probably never would have heard of these latest charges.
Furthermore, does anyone actually believe he wasn’t committing similar crimes between 1992 and now? These are just the ones we are now hearing about.
