Married “Christian” Rocker Trey Pearson Embraces Sodomy, Something God Condemns

“Christian” rock singer Trey Pearson, of the band Everday Sunday, has decided not to confront his open sinful behavior with the Bible, but rather justify it before a god who does not exist. In a recent interview, Pearson came out that he is openly embracing sodomy, something that the God of the Bible not only condemns, but commanded the death penalty.

In an open letter in (614) Magazine, the 35-year-old singer said, “I grew up in a very conservative Christian home where I was taught that my sexual orientation was a matter of choice, and had put all my faith into that. I had never before admitted to myself that I was gay, let alone to anyone else. I never wanted to be gay. I was scared of what God would think and what all of these people I loved would think about me; so it never was an option for me.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Pearson should be scared of what God thinks. After all, the apostle Paul wrote:

“Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind (this means those who engage in sodomy in the Greek), for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.” -1 Timothy 1:9-10

He also warned in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11:

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Again, the law condemns those who engage in such behavior and warns that they are not a part of the Kingdom of God. In other words, they are unrepentant and still in their sins in need of a Savior. Those who depart from such things are mentioned by Paul in verse 11 above as those who “were” that way, but had been “washed,” “sanctified,” and “justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

“I have been suppressing these attractions and feelings since adolescence,” said Pearson. “I’ve tried my whole life to be straight. I married a girl, and I even have two beautiful little kids. My daughter, Liv, is six and my son, Beckham, is two.”

“So much of me has so much heartache that I couldn’t grow up loving myself for who I am,” he added.

“I could not accept myself. I was so scared that God would hate me,” Pearson continued. “That all of the people I loved wouldn’t see me the same way. I couldn’t allow being gay to be an option. I just hoped and prayed, with everything in me, that I could just be straight – that I could be attracted to women, and that it would all work. I tried.”

Sadly, instead of Pearson embracing what Scripture says about sodomy, he has deceived himself by not honoring God as God and he has been turned over to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:26-27). Furthermore, he has twisted Scripture to justify his sinful thoughts and behavior.

“I have tried not to be gay for more than 20 years of my life,” Pearson told the magazine. “I found so much comfort as a teen in 1 Samuel 18-20 and the intimacy of Jonathan and David,” he explained. “I thought and hoped that such male intimacy could fulfill that void I felt in my desire for male companionship.”

Pearson went on to describe how this has affected his marriage and may possibly impact his career.

“When I needed her in this, she was able to hug me, and cry, and tell me how proud of me she was for being able to be honest with myself,” he said of his wife. “I knew then it didn’t matter what anyone else thought, or did to me. I knew then that I had been set free.

“I am never going to be able to change how I am, and no matter how healthy our relationship becomes, it’s never going to change what I know deep down: that I am gay,” he added. “Lauren has been the most supportive, understanding, loving and gracious person I could ever ask for, as I have come to face this. And now I am trying to figure out how to co-parent while being her friend, and how to raise our children.”

“I never wanted to just make music for Christians, or Christian radio, but I have always wanted to be honest in my music,” Pearson continued. “A lot of being honest in my music is talking about my faith, but it’s also talking about all kinds of other things. I plan to continue to do all of that. I realize a lot of gate holders in that industry may want to never play my songs again, due to fear – but I also think the world is changing – and I think there are a lot of people out there that want to be a part of this conversation. So, wherever people are willing to listen to my music and my story, I will go.”

While I appreciate Mr. Pearson’s ability to confess these things, the real problem is that he is not being repentant. I have counseled many people who confess things, but are unwilling to turn from them and fight against them as we are commanded to do. This is what I see this man doing and it will eventually destroy him as he is embracing the judgment of God, not His mercy.

If Christians actually claim to know the mercy and grace of God and claim to love Trey Pearson, they will lovingly confront his sin and call him to repentance, not encourage him in it. Furthermore, I wonder if his church, if he is even a part of one, will confront the abomination he is espousing according to the words of the Lord Jesus in Matthew 18. Let’s pray they will.
