Maryland Senate Bill 669 Legalizes Infanticide Up To 28 Days After Birth

There’s a lot of rubber meeting the road these days. And, as we have warned time and again, giving an inch leads to taking a mile. Residents in Maryland are about to find that out with Senate Bill 669 proposed in the Maryland legislature.

Matt Lamb covered the story for LifeSiteNews.com.

Legislation proposed in the Maryland Senate would allow babies to be left to die for as long as the first 28 days after birth, according to analysis from a pro-life attorney.

Senate Bill 669 is also known as the Pregnant Person’s Freedom Act of 2022, but the problems go beyond the use of “person” in place of accurate references to women having babies. Senator William Smith, a Democrat, sponsored the legislation, which will have a hearing on March 15.

[T]he bill also proposes a revision of the fetal murder/manslaughter statute that would serve to handcuff the investigation of infant deaths unrelated to abortion,” American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) attorney Olivia Summers wrote in her analysis

This is because the legislation prohibits investigations and criminal prosecutions for women and medical professionals for a “failure to act” in relation to a “perinatal death.”

In other words, a baby born alive and well could be abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death,” Summers wrote, “and nothing could be done to punish those who participated in that cruel death.”

She said that the language used is unclear, so the law could be interpreted to “prevent investigations into the death of infants at least seven days AFTER their birth, and may extend to infants as old as four weeks!”

The Maryland Code does not define “perinatal,” Summers said. A 2020 law does define “perinatal care” as the “provision of care during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum and neonatal periods.”

definition on MedicineNet, a website owned by WebMD, defines it as “the 20th to 28th week of gestation” to “1 to 4 weeks after birth.”

This is codifying murder of newborns up to 28 days old! How many times have anti-life individuals claimed murdering of babies would not happen outside the womb? How many times have anti-life individuals claimed babies in the womb are nothing but a “clump of cells” to justify what is unjustifiable? How many times have anti-life individuals pounded the mantra drum of a “woman’s right to choose” whether to terminate the life of the baby in the womb using the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade as conferring that pretended right to women? How many times have these same people said, “it’s the law of the land” when the Supreme Court decision in no way conveys any legislative power?

This proposed legislation in Maryland cannot be termed anything but murder and codified “euthanasia via cruel means” of infants when medical professionals participate. And yes, euthanasia is murder. Euthanasia has been sold to the public as “individual requested assisted suicide” – suicide is “self-murder”. It is unethical, immoral, lawless, and against God’s law.

Summers, with the ACLJ, noted in her analysis that the state already has a safe haven law that allows parents to leave a newborn baby with a responsible adult without fear of prosecution.

Under the Safe Haven law, a distressed parent who is unable or unwilling to care for their infant can safely give up custody of their baby, no questions asked,” the Maryland Department of Human Services explains. “Newborns can be left at hospitals or law enforcement stations.”

There is absolutely no reason for Maryland Senate Bill 669’s attempt to prevent someone who lets their baby die from being investigated,” Summers said. “This bill just further exposes the complete lack of regard abortion advocates have for innocent human life.”

If they truly want to protect life and women, then legislators could simply extend the length of the safe harbor provision already in place,” she said.

Senator Smith, the bill’s sponsor, did not provide a comment on the ACLJ’s analysis of the legislation. The office responded to the initial email but did not comment any further.

Why is this legislation being proposed when Maryland has “Safe Haven law”? It is unconscionable that any individual would propose to “legalize” murder of infants through repealing investigation and punishment of those committing infanticide. What exactly is the “cut off” age for murdering children? This Maryland State Senator proposes murder is acceptable up to 28 days or 4 weeks of age. Why is any type of murder, in utero or otherwise, of infants acceptable? Who can even give a rational reason for it? Convenience is NOT a rational reason, nor is standing on some “pretended” government endorsed right. Rights do not originate with government but come from God.

What prevents that age from being expanded?

Olivia Summers, in a post at ACLJ.org, provides information on how you can help stop this atrocious violation.

As we prepare to submit our written testimony on March 15th opposing Senate Bill 669, you can take action too. Sign our petition so that we can let the Maryland legislators know exactly what the public thinks about their agenda. If you are a Maryland resident – call your state senator and tell them to oppose Senate Bill 669.

If you live in Maryland, please sign the petition, and call your state senator to voice your opposition to this “codified murder of infants” in your State. Find out who supports this lawless legislation and remove them from office through impeachment for violation of their oath.

Christians, it is time to stand up while wearing your full armor of God and put your feet to your prayers on ending the murder of babies in the womb and this atrocious proposed bill in Maryland. As we have witnessed repeatedly, where goes one State, others surely follow. This is not a “Democrat/Republican”, “left/right”, “conservative/liberal” issue. It concerns everyone. If this gets through, what is to stop any legislature from changing law to “legalize” any type of murder based on arbitrary reasons. Think about the movie, “The Purge”.

Does Maryland Senate bill 669 have any chance of being passed? When “government” issued the availability of poisonous injections for CONvid-1984 for children, regardless of age, one would have thought parents would rise up in outrage and refusal. That didn’t happen. Instead, many parents subjected their offspring to be injected with a poisonous soup that is causing irreparable damage to their offspring’s bodies.

At what point is enough, enough? That remains to be seen. But, the American people better find that point, stand on it, defend it, and get on the offensive to return this country to its foundation. If we do not, God will surely increase His judgment against a disobedient people seven-fold. Of that, you can be sure.
