Media Now Claims Donald Trump’s Last Name is a Racist “Derogatory” Slur

This past week there was a High School basketball game that caused some minor waves across Iowa, the nation, and the blogosphere.

Dallas Center-Grimes High School (DCG) from Grimes, Iowa met to play Perry High School from Perry, Iowa in a friendly game of basketball. At some point during the game the fans from the predominantly white Dallas Center-Grimes began chanting what the media called a “derogatory chant” at the players from Perry, where almost half of the students are non-white.

What was the terrible and “derogatory” chant that the DCG students hurled at the opposing team?

“Trump, Trump, Trump…”

Yep. That’s it. They started chanting Donald Trump’s last name.

Those terrible, mean-spirited children. How rude.

Look, I get it. The DCG kids were making a mean joke about the minority students from Perry, but seriously, how is this chant “derogatory”? One of the Perry students said that he had been “hurt” by the chant, but why would this cause him pain? Is he an illegal immigrant? If he is, then that’s a problem. If he isn’t, why would Trump’s name bother him?

Now, today there has been some discussion about Trump refusing to speak out against the KKK and David Duke, which lends some credence to the racism outcries, but seriously? Our culture has some serious problems if people are going to be offended by some kids chanting the last name of a leading presidential candidate.

One student from DCG, argued that there were many lessons to be learned from the unfortunate “Trumping” of their rival High School.
“I knew as soon as we saw it, we had to fix this. This was wrong. How we can come together as a community and support one another and love each other no matter what our skin color is – that’s the important part and that’s what really needs to be learned here,” she argued.
I appreciate her sincerity and her concern for her fellow man, but I think everyone might be overthinking the kerfluffle.
