Mexican Drug Violence Crosses Into US

Mexico has been a place of beauty and violence for several years.  As I reportedpreviously, the violence between government and cartel soldiers has been on the rise.  Add to that the clashes between rival cartels and the northern border of Mexico can be a dangerous place to be or live.  Shootouts are regularly occurring, and bystanders usually get caught in the crossfire.  Now there is a report that U.S. personnel have been involved in the violence.

My San Antonio reports:

The FBI and the Texas Rangers said Saturday they have launched an investigation into the downing of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter near the Rio Grande in Laredo.

CBP said the helicopter “was struck several times by ground fire” about 5 p.m. on Friday. The rounds penetrated and damaged the aircraft and forced the pilot to make an emergency landing. No one was injured in the incident.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Not to make more of this than there is, but it must be pointed out.  The cartel shot down an American helicopter while patrolling our border.  This helicopter was not in Mexico, and it had no intentions of operating in Mexico.  It was well within the bounds of normal operations.  Drug cartels regularly attack Mexican police and federal officers, but this is rare.  It points to the fact that things are getting worse and moving north.

This has caught the attention of Congress.

The Washington Post reports:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Rep. Blake Farenthold, Texas Republican, were planning to get a firsthand look at the situation in Laredo, Texas, after the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing Friday.

In addition to this, we are faced with a reduction or cut of danger pay for the State Department personnel working in this area.

The Washington Post adds:

In particular, they wondered why the department was poised to cut the danger pay for its diplomatic personnel in Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros as authorities in northern Mexico were being attacked with stunning frequency in the drug war.

So, as things get more dangerous in Mexico, let’s cut the pay of those serving there.  Well, this runs par for the course since Clinton/Kerry have been running the State Department.  The Administration says that it is not that dangerous, even though American kidnappings are on the rise.

The department warned that “no highway routes through Tamaulipas are considered safe” and that the number of kidnappings and abductions of Americans spiked last year.

It should make us wonder why the administration is so willing to gloss over the violence that occurs so close to our borders.  Is it because these are the same people he wants us to make American citizens?  We have to see that this is the result of a lawless society.  Without a standard of law, anything is permissible.

Such things are discussed in my book, An Everlasting Covenant.  Get it now at Amazon.
