If You Have No Desire for Others to Be Saved, Then You’re Not Saved Yourself!

When Jesus gave the commandment in Mark 16:15 to “…Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature,” it was not a suggestion.  It was a commandment. Yet, how many “professed Christians” actually have obeyed that command?  Few. Very few.

When you look at the average “Christian church goer” you see someone who attends church on Sunday mornings, possibly Wednesday nights and then pretty much lives their own selfish lives for themselves the rest of the week. Their days are filled with work, activities, sporting events, and more and they do not have any real desire to seek and save that which is lost (Luke 19:10).  Why do they have no desire to see others saved?  It’s because they are not truly saved themselves.

It was Charles Spurgeon who said, “Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you’re not saved yourself, be sure of that!”  How true it is!  How can someone truly realize the awesomeness of being forgiven from their past transgressions and have their sins washed in the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, and not desire for others to experience the same thing?  The simple answer is, you can’t.

If someone is truly a child of God they will be about their Father’s business (Luke 2:49). No one will have to motivate them to do anything because it’s already bubbling up within their heart to do. Their cup runs over with the gratitude of their Salvation and the love of Christ has been shed abroad in their hearts by the Holy Ghost (Romans 5:5), so they cannot help but to seek and save that which is lost.

If you thought you had a terminal illness or disease and you had only a short time left to live and thought you were going to die and someone came along and gave you the cure so you could be well and live whole again, you would be ecstatic!  You would be overcome with joy and gratitude and thankfulness and love immeasurable for the one who gave you that cure.  No one would have to try to coerce you to thank that person because it would naturally be within your heart to do. The best way to express or show your gratitude and thankfulness is by your actions.

I John 3:18 says, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”  You would be so overwhelmed and filled with joy from being set free from the shadow of death that you would be telling everyone you met what happened.  You would tell them that you were about to die, but this wonderful person gave you the cure for your disease so you could live.  When you saw others who were in the same condition that you once were, you wouldn’t hesitate because of fear to say anything.  No, you would give them the cure with great boldness (Proverbs 28:1).  In fact, no one could stop you from giving them the “Good News.” You would want them to have the cure for themselves.  And so it is with the “Good News” of the Gospel.

You were a once dying sinner who was bound in the chains of sin and had only the promise of death, but Jesus Christ came in (Upon the repentance of your sins for transgressing God’s Holy Law – I John 3:4 & I John 1:9) and shattered the chains that once held you captive and now you are free (John 8:36).  That’s exactly what it’s like for someone who has been soundly saved. Their desire is for others to experience the same thing.

Christianity is not for the faint hearted.  Christianity is not for fragile flowers.  Christianity is for those who have repented of their sin before God, been washed and redeemed through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:7), and have taken upon themselves the full armor of God to fight the good fight of faith in this battle against the world.  What is their main goal here on this earth?  It is to seek and save that which is lost (Luke 19:10)!

Do you seek and save that which is lost?  Do you witness to the lost on a regular basis? I’m talking real witnessing, not just an “I hope people just see my lifestyle and know I am different.”  Yeah, that’s not what I’m talking about.  If you have no desire for your fellow coworker, husband or wife, children, family members, or complete strangers to be saved, then you’re not saved yourself.  Do not kid yourself into believing you are because if you were, the fruit of your life would be different.

Christianity is not about warming a church pew on a Sunday morning, Christianity is about doing what the Lord commands out of a heart of love for what Jesus did for you on the cross.  And if you are not reaching out to those who are lost near you, then I would seriously examine myself to see whether I was even in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5).  Think about it.
