Obama Once Again Illegally Sending 200 Troops to Syria

The US Constitution makes the President Commander in Chief of the armed forces when they have been called by Congress into the actual service of the United States (Article II, Section 2, Clause 1). So why, in a time when war has not been declared is Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah being allowed to send 200 more US troops into Syria?

Fox News reports:

MANAMA, Bahrain –   U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Saturday that as many as 200 more American troops are being sent to Syria to help Kurdish and Arab fighters capture the Islamic State group’s key stronghold of Raqqa.

The extra troops will include special operations forces and are in addition to 300 U.S. troops already authorized for the effort to recruit, organize, train and advise local Syrian forces to combat IS.

Addressing a security conference in Bahrain, Carter also took gentle jabs at U.S. Middle East partners for failing to provide more military muscle in the broader campaign to defeat IS and counter extremism.

Without mentioning any by name, Carter suggested the U.S. has been the target of disingenuous criticism from “regional powers here in the Middle East” for not doing more to help fight extremism.

“I would ask you to imagine what U.S. military and defense leaders think when they have to listen to complaints sometimes that we should do more, when it’s plain to see that all too often, the ones complaining aren’t doing enough themselves,” he said.

How about keeping our nose out of it. The conflict in Syria has absolutely nothing to do with the defense of the united States. In fact, by staying out of it, we owe no one anything concerning taking in alleged Muslim refugees from a country we are illegally engaging in conflict.

The Guardian adds:

He said it was not unreasonable for Washington to expect regional powers who opposed extremism in the Middle East to do more to help fight it, “particularly in the political and economic aspects of the campaign”.

Carter noted how many Sunni-led Gulf countries had expressed concern about the spread of Iranian influence in the region.

“The fact is, if countries in the region are worried about Iran’s destabilising activities – a concern the United States shares – they need to get in the game. That means getting serious about starting to partner more with each other, and investing in the right capabilities for the threat.”

He added that Russia, Syria’s main ally, had “only inflamed the civil war and prolonged suffering”.

Carter said Obama had approved the extra troop movements last week. It is thought they are needed in the urgent efforts to train Arab volunteers who are joining the Raqqa push.

“By combining our capabilities with those of our local partners, we’ve been squeezing Isis by applying simultaneous pressure from all sides and across domains, through a series of deliberate actions to continue to build momentum,” he said.

The problem is that Obama does not have the authority to approve troop movements because he has not been given it from Congress.

Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the US Constitution states:

The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States;

Where is that call issued from? It isn’t the Executive Branch. It comes from Congress (Article I, Section 8).

To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;

To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years;

To provide and maintain a navy;

To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces;

To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

All of this is Congress’ duty, not the Executive. Furthermore, notice that this requires a declaration of war, something we have not had since World War II.

On top of this, I have to question men like Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) concerning their addressing the Obama administration over usurping authority previously to send troops into places like Libya without congressional approval. Now, we not only are sending troops back into Iraq without congressional approval, but also Yemen and Syria.

Even former Democrat Congressman Dennis Kucinich said Obama risks impeachment by going around Congress to deal with Syria. I only hear crickets.

Where are the articles of impeachment for these crimes against the people and the Constitution? Where are they?
