Oklahoma Abortionist Naresh Patel Charged with Racketeering – Faces 10 Years in Prison

Oklahoma City, OK — An Oklahoma abortionist who was arrested last week for prescribing abortion pills to women who were not pregnant has drawn another serious criminal count.

Thursday, the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office charged Naresh Patel, 62, with racketeering, a felony punishable by at least 10 years in jail.

The charges were all in relation to his Outpatient for Women abortion business, located in Oklahoma City.

“Kermit Gosnell was also charged and convicted of racketeering. Both have been accused of operating a corrupt organization. This is just another way that the two abortionists share similarities,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “We pray for Patel’s conversion and hope that he finds Jesus while sitting in jail after his conviction.”

Operation Rescue had filed complaints with the Attorney General and Oklahoma Medical Board against Patel earlier this year after discovering evidence of abortion abuses in trash from his office supplied by a confidential informant. Cooperation between those two agencies led to Patel’s arrest.

After his arrest, authorities searched his house and abortion clinic and seized additional evidence.

Patel’s abortion business remains closed with no immediate plans to reopen until sometime “after the first of the year” according to a woman answering the phone at his abortion facility number.

The Medical Board has declined to issue an emergency suspension of his license to practice, but that seems to matter little with his abortion facility shut down.

Patel was recently sued for sexual harassment after an employee claimed that he repeatedly asked her for sexual favors. She alleges he forced her to conduct grisly tasks at his abortion facility after she refused her advances and that she quit after he attempted to rape her at his home.

Patel was acquitted in the 1990s on rape charges after three women came forward and pressed charges against him.
