One of the Greatest Men of All Time Wasn’t Just a Talker – He Was a Doer!

George Washington was born on February 22nd, 1732.  He was one of the greatest Founding Fathers and the first president of the United States of America.  He fought in the French and Indian War, which took place from 1754 to 1763, and also in the War For Independence.  He didn’t just talk about the necessity to have freedom, but was willing to fight for it.

Washington was a model of true Christian patriotism and his example that he set forth as the first president of the United States was an exemplary standard patterned after moral and Christian virtues.  He knew that religion, under the umbrella of Christianity, and moral principles were necessary foundations for our country.  In fact, he was quoted, as saying, “Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society.”

After his providential victory in the War For Independence and after his time of service as president of the United States, Washington returned back to his beloved home in Mount Vernon, Virginia.  His home is so unique and special that at least 27 United States presidents have visited Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon was also George Washington’s final resting place. After his death in 1799, the nation wanted to honor their first president by burying him at the capitol building in Washington DC, but in George Washington’s last will and testament, he gave explicit instructions to be entombed at his home at Mount Vernon, Virginia. There you will find his final resting place that can be seen by visitors today.

George Washington was an extraordinary man. If it wasn’t for George Washington, we wouldn’t be here today.  He wasn’t just a talker. He was a doer (James 1:22).
