“Punishment is justice for the unjust.” -Augustine
How is it that day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year we hear of some sort of corruption being exposed within the walls of government by some of the same politicians? They seem to live as if they are above the very laws that they are put there to enforce.
Corrupt politicians are so quick to blame someone else for what they are being accused when they are found out for their crimes; or they simply attempt to distract their constituents from their crimes by saying that it is some sort of smear campaign that is leveled at them.
And without fail when it comes to the dummied down constituents, they merely laugh it off even when they themselves admit that they are corrupt (John 8:44). Even if some people have a little sense of right and wrong, they might even go so far and to say that the corrupt representative should merely resign.
Resign, really? That’s it! Just resign. Is that what the law does with you when you transgress? After breaking the law, you say, “Well I am going to resign”?
By these responses given from the constituencies across the country, of course, this is only going to encourage the enemies of righteousness to continue on in their crime sprees, and so they do.
When you read Article 2, Section 4 of the United States Constitution, you read:
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers (This includes Judges) of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. (Also read Article 3, Section 3)
You can clearly see, though it does apply to high crimes such as Treason, yet it also applies to Misdemeanors, to the smallest of jot’s and tittles in violating of the US Constitution and its enumerated laws.
Furthermore, the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 3 tells us that judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.
What is the answer to corruption? When you read the preamble to the United States Constitution it boldly proclaims, “We the People of the United States, in order to form a perfect Union, establish Justice…” Justice which guards our American liberties (Deuteronomy 4:6, Isaiah 51:4) that is, if the American people are willing to enforce the law.
When the American people finally come to the end of their rope and have had enough of the “Circus of Politics” and corrupt politicians, then, and only then, will the people do what is long overdue and bring forth justice to bring about the resolve that people so say that they desire (Amos 5:15).
