Phyllis Schlafly has been a powerhouse in the conservative movement for over 50 years. Now at 90 years old, she is generally regarded as an iconic figure whose lifetime of work has endeared her to many thankful conservatives. Even now, as she has slowed her work advocating for conservatism her opinions hold weight with many on the right, and her most recent remarks on a controversial subject ring as true as her thoughts from the past.

On May 11^th Schlafly was a guest on the radio show Talkback with Chuck Wilder when the host asked her, “Have you noticed that only Christian small-business people have been harassed and sued for refusing to participate in same-sex ‘marriages,’ even though our fast-growing immigrant populations — you know of Muslims, Hindus and other faiths — are also opposed to that concept? The use of same-sex ‘marriage’ to attack Christian businesses but not businesses run by members of other religions demonstrates what is really driving the demand for the new constitutional right to same-sex ‘marriage.’ And Phyllis, give them the bottom line. What is that bottom line?”

Schlafly responded in her well-known, no-nonsense style.

“Well, that is right. They want to wipe out the Christian religion. And most of the other religions do not recognize same-sex ‘marriage.’ I assume there are some Muslim bakers and photographers and other people who have been harassed, but they’re not being attacked and they’re not being criticized.”

Schlafly is right.

I don’t think that the vast majority of homosexuals are out to destroy Christianity, but there is a political class leading the homosexual lobby whose goal is indeed to end any influence that Christianity has in America. Consider the central stated goal of the homosexual lobby – “equality.” While, in the past, homosexual couples did not enjoy the same benefits of marriage that heterosexual married couples did, this is no longer true in most states (and hasn’t been for some time). Most states have developed legal methods for homosexual couples to gain the same benefits as married heterosexual couples… and yet, the homosexual lobby continues to push this “inequality” fallacy.

It has to do with much more than equality, folks. It has to do with the “normalization” of homosexuality and the demonization of anyone who disagrees. For those who will not bend to the now culturally acceptable “lifestyle” choice of less than 3% of Americans, the homosexual lobby truly does wish to ‘wipe us out.’ They view us as an anachronistic anomaly – bigots who do not deserve to be a functioning part of modern society. The recent legal cases forcing Christian business owners to participate in homosexual “wedding” ceremonies should be instructive on this point.

New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Richard Bosson admitted that Christians must be silenced when he issued his opinion in the case of Elane and Jonathan Huguenin who owned a photography studio and refused to photography a sodomite-commitment ceremony.

“… now are compelled by law to compromise the very religious beliefs that inspire their lives… the result is sobering. It will no doubt leave a tangible mark on the Huguenins and others of similar views.

 … At its heart, this case teaches that at some point in our lives all of us must compromise, if only a little, to accommodate the contrasting values of others. A multicultural, pluralistic society, one of our nation’s strengths, demands no less. The Huguenins are free to … pray to the God of their choice … But there is a price, one that we all have to pay somewhere in our civic life.”

Bosson goes on to say having to violate your religious beliefs when they conflict with social issues like gay marriage “is the price of citizenship.” 

Understand those words well, Christians (and conservatives who support traditional marriage views). If you will not violate your beliefs when they conflict with the greater society’s beliefs… then the government will coerce you to, or you will face the consequences.

This is life in the new fascist liberal America.
