Professor Blows Reporter Away On Free Speech Vs Being Offended

Professor Jordan Peterson is a personal hero of mine because he’s out there on the front lines, the university campuses, of the philosophical debate between the radical left and sanity. Peterson is a Canadian professor of psychology who finally had enough with his University system telling him how to speak and act with his students. The final straw came a couple of years ago when they told Canadian professors that there were many different genders and each student should be identified as the gender they choose.

As a scientist, Peterson understands that there is NO SUCH THING as multiple genders beyond the two biologically established genders that we’ve known for thousands of years, and so he refused to go along with the farce. His stand against the insanity has vaulted him into infamy and made him one of the leaders of the philosophical debate against the complete and utter collapse of our culture.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Over the last year or so, his stand has also morphed into a battle for free speech. Campuses across North America and Europe have attempted to silence his completely fact-based, scientifically proven lectures and so he has responded by battling tooth and nail to defend our freedom to speak uncomfortable things.

In his most recent interview, an obviously combative reporter tries to shame him for offending people, and Professor Peterson uses the moment to prove his point. His logic silences the reporter as she realizes that in her attempt to attack Peterson she has simply proved him right and the leftist crybabies wrong.

Channel 4 Reporter Cathy Newman: “Why should your right to freedom of speech trump a trans person’s right not to be offended?”

Professor Jordan Peterson: “Because in order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive. I mean, look at the conversation we’re having right now. You’re certainly willing to risk offending me in the pursuit of truth. Why should you have the right to do that? It’s been rather uncomfortable.”

Newman: “Well, I’m very glad I’ve put you on the spot.”

Peterson: “Well you get my point. You’re doing what you should do, which is digging a bit to see what the hell is going on. And that is what you should do. But you’re exercising your freedom of speech to certainly risk offending me, and that’s fine. More power to you, as far as I’m concerned.”

It was at this point that Newman finally seemed to realize that Peterson was right, even if she didn’t like it. If we are not allowed to risk offending others, then almost all speech can be regulated and that would be a very bad thing for a supposedly “free” society. Newman, dumbstruck for the moment, tried to develop a response… but failed.

Newman: “So you haven’t sat there and — I’m just trying to work that out…”

Peterson: “Ha, got ya.”

Newman: “You did. You did.”

Most of their conversation revolved around the Canadian government’s attempts to legislate speech and force citizens to speak in a certain manner. Peterson argues that he, and others like him, will never abandon their right to speak freely, nor will they cede to the government’s wishes and speak in a manner that flies in the face of reason, logic, and science.

Here’s the full combative interview where you can watch a leftist try, and fail, to outthink a conservative who has evidence, facts, and data to support his arguments.

Peterson also has a new book out called 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos which they discuss in the interview.
