Rand Paul: In the United States, we do not have a king, but we do have a Constitution!

“In the United States, we do not have a king, but we do have a Constitution. We also have the Second Amendment, and I will fight tooth and nail to protect it.”Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul today introducedthe Separation of Powers Restoration and Second Amendment Protection Act, which would cancel and forbid funding any of Obama’s executive orders on gun control if they undermine the powers reserved for Congress under the Constitution.

Paul’s decision to introduce the Act (which should be unnecessary considering what the Bill of Rights has to say about gun ownership) is an effort to preempt Obama’s planned “executive action” on guns. The President and his lackeys have been discussing the possibility (and probability) of pushing gun control through executive action for several months, and they now seem ready to go for the throat, so to speak. The President recently announced that he would be moving forward with executive action on gun control in the new year, which is why Senator Paul has pushed forward this legislation now, in the days just before Christmas and New Year.

Senator Paul has always been a faithful defender of the 2nd Amendment as well as a vocal opponent to Executive Power. He recently pushed forward legislation to enforce our right to carry in Washington, D.C.

(Starting around 3:30 in the Video.)

“I’m all for self-defense. I think it lets the attackers know that if they want to come attack us in this country, that we will kill them and that we will defend ourselves.”

Senator Paul is right on both counts.

Every law-abiding American citizen has the innate, God-given right to defend themselves from those who would do them harm. It shouldn’t matter whether they live in a big city or a rural farm town. Also, the Constitution lays out strict guidelines for the power of the president and it explicitly gives the legislature power to make law… the President’s responsibility is to enforce the laws passed by the legislature. It’s high time Congress reminds President Obama that he is no king and that “we the people” are the ones who rule.
