The Riot Act was an English law passed in 1715. It provided that if 12 or more people were unlawfully assembled to the disturbance of public peace they must disperse on proclamation (reading the Riot Act) or be guilty of a felony. Today, “reading the riot act” means to command to stop doing something regarded as wrong, with a warning that disobedience will bring punishment. If we had such a “Riot Act” enforced here in the USA, perhaps the Ferguson and Baltimore rioting would have not taken place.

Lawless criminals rule in our nation at nearly every level. We continue the systematic murder of thousands of babies each day. Sodomy is spreading like an aggressive cancer in our society. Hollywood and sporting events of all kinds relentlessly beckon us to worship at the perverted altar of the entertainment gods who provide us with hours of destructive distractions. It will take far more than devoted attempts to reform our government, push some kind of religion, improve the economy or correct every injustice.

God is “reading us the riot act.” As the Lord and King of the universe, He is commanding His Church to stop some stuff. He wants us to quit whining about how bad things are in our nation and world. All the horrid and pervasive spread of iniquity (lawlessness) is exactly as God said it would be in the last of the last days. The call to His Church is to repent—change your mind, change your direction. Turn from your sin and to God… or punishment is sure to follow.

God is ordering us to stop the merry-go-round of dead, empty perversions of the gospel of Christ. Stop the endless self-help teachings. Study and obey the Word of God, follow the real Jesus and live each moment in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Quit standing down. Start standing up and boldly address the tough issues of our day from a biblical perspective.

Our only hope as individuals, and as a nation, is to humble ourselves, pray and turn from our wicked ways (II Chronicles 7:14). God will hear us, forgive our sin and heal our land. There must arise a sanctified, fiery, uncompromising, relentless, sacrificing remnant who will fear and love God above all else, love people (I John 3:18) and hate the very appearance of sin. God has mandated (Matthew 28:18-20) a Jesus-loving, Holy Spirit-filled people who are red-hot with the zeal of the Lord. These will pray, preach and prophesy with great authority and power everywhere they can, to everyone they can as long as they still can.

There is no time for trifling debates over religious protocol and splitting theological hairs. There’s no place for cowering to the lying, intimidating policies of tolerance and acceptance of what the Bible clearly defines as sin and abomination.

God has read the riot act. “Who is on the Lord’s side?” (Exodus 32:26) Can you hear it? Will you heed His warning? Bow before Him! Then stand up for Him, for righteousness! Get going with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Fight “the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life…” (I Timothy 6:12). Soft soldiers are no soldiers at all. The war is fiercely intense, certainly not for the faint of heart. It will cost you your life, because it cost Him His.

Get in or get out! Get used to being an enemy of the state. Get used to being misunderstood and maligned, inspected and rejected.

Time for each of us is running out fast. Life and death, heaven and hell are in the balance. Every person is either saved or lost. The true Church has the only message that can save human beings from eternal destruction and bring them to eternal life—the gospel of Jesus Christ. And no matter how viciously we are opposed and despised in carrying out our Great Commission, “the gates of hell” (Matthew 16:18) will not prevail against us!
