Reason is the Enemy of Faith! Carnal Men Speaking of Spiritual Matters?

“For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” -Galatians 1:12

I have heard on many occasions men try to convince men of spiritual things, while they are yet in their reprobate state (Titus 1:16).

I have also seen many times them revert to historical and carnal viewpoints (A wooden blunt sword rather than the sword of the Spirit; Hebrews 4:12), and that is their reasonings when it comes to the Christ, rather than sharing their testimony of which they are to be witnesses (Acts 2:32).

Reason is the enemy to real faith!

The reasoning of carnal men, in many cases, diverts men from the Christ that they claim to serve.

You do not argue with carnal men and come down to their level of conversation when speaking of the Gospel, but rather lift them up to the things of the Spirit that their conscience may be awakened, and their hearts opened to see their transgressions and need of a Savior (Romans 3:20).

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;. …So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” -Romans 8:7-9

After all, it is the obligation laid upon Christians to bring the answers in Christ by the Spirit to the world.  This is because it is the Spirit by whom they are born and it is the power of the same Spirit that converts men (Psalm 19:7; Galatinas 3:24; John 16:8; 2 Corinthians 7:10-11), not carnal reasoning! How are carnal men to convey spiritual matters when they are not born of the Spirit?

What assures me of who I am in Christ is what Christ has done for me in delivering me from my sins (1 Corinthians 15:12-17) and revealing to the world who He is today through me (1 John 4:17).

If I am born of the Spirit (John 3:3), I will exhibit the things of the Spirit because we are not to find our faith in the wisdom of men’s words, but in the power of God.

“That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” -1 Corinthians 2:5

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” -1 Corinthians 4:20

“For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.  So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.  For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak anything.  For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;” -1 Thessalonians 1:5-9

You cannot counterfeit what you do not have, friends.  Nor can you give what you do not have and yet, we see this all the day long when it comes to those who call themselves Christians.

If you say that you are a Christian, then let me see the Christ (1 John 5:12).

I am not talking about making a circus out of the Gospel in those who demand signs and wonders, though they are promised to the believers (Hebrews 2:4), I am talking about how they received the Gospel by that of the Spirit and not of men.

“For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” -Galatians 1:12

We know that there is no such thing as a fruitless Christian (John 15:8).

The type of people I am talking about here are those that talk of carnal things such as their favorite preachers, politicians, sports icons, musicians, etc.  They know much of the world for this is the spirit of which they were born; and what, I ask, comes of that? False converts! Look to their conversations (1 John 4:4-5), because that is all that they know and which they are familiar.

When it comes to their testimony, they speak much of their sinful lives rather than how great of a Savior that Christ is, the one whom allegedly saved them.  Yet, they do not know from what it was that they are to be saved (Matthew 1:21).

Friends, Jesus said:

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” -John 3:5-8

So, in conclusion, let me ask you, if they are not born again (John 3:3), how is it that they are trying to convince men to be saved when they are not even saved? If the blind lead the blind, they both shall fall into a ditch (Matthew 15:14). How are those who are dead in their sins to preach life in the Spirit?

Friends, whatever the Lord puts in you, no devil in hell can take it away. Remember, if man can talk you into something with his carnal reasonings, man can also talk you out of it.
