#ReleaseTheMemo On Friday?

It’s being reported that President Donald Trump is on board with releasing the FISA document on Friday and apparently, has the support of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Following House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s decision to try and oust Rep. Davin Nunes (R-CA) due to claims by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) that Nunes changed the memo, the White House indicated that it would be signing off on the memo’s release.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

On Wednesday, Schiff tweeted, “Discovered late tonight that Chairman Nunes made material changes to the memo he sent to White House – changes not approved by the Committee. White House therefore reviewing a document the Committee has not approved for release.”

Fox News reports:

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who opposes the memo’s release in any form, wrote that the committee’s minority determined the letter was not “the same document” its members have been reviewing since mid-January. Nunes’ office countered that the changes were minor and blasted the complaint as a “bizarre distraction from the abuses detailed in the memo.”

Fox News is told that the version Trump plans to declassify contains “technical edits” made at the request of the FBI.

Sources said the edited version was shown to five FBI officials at the White House on Tuesday afternoon. Sources said the officials were satisfied that the edited memo addressed concerns they had about the earlier version they reviewed on Monday.

Yet, in a rare and surprising rebuke, an FBI statement was released on Wednesday asserting they had “grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”

A source familiar with the memo said the edits included some addressing grammar and clarity, as well as an edit done at the request of the FBI and another at the request of committee Democrats. The source challenged Schiff’s claims, saying the edits were made before the memo went to the White House.

Ryan dismissed both Pelosi and Schumer’s demands that Nunes resign.  He also added that Congress is “doing its job of oversight.”

Ryan also said that “if civil liberties were abused with FISA, then the memo needs to come out.”

Here’s what I think, if Ryan uses the term “if” in the sentence above, either he doesn’t know what the Constitution says, hasn’t read the memo, or there’s really nothing in it.  Does he not know civil liberties violations when he sees them?

I’m pretty sure at least one of those is true, possibly all three.

I guess we’ll be finding out soon.  However, one thing that consistently bothers me in all of this is that people have called the report “shocking” and said that people would go to jail over it.

If that is the case, then why have there been no arrests yet?  The people who would be charged with the duty of enforcing the Constitution have the information.  Why have they not acted on it?

I suppose we’ll see another brouhaha over this on Friday in a news dump between 3-5 pm or later when people aren’t paying attention, and then we’ll know.
