Self-Proclaimed Street Preacher & Others Sentenced In “Basement Of Horrors” Case

A group of four adults has been sentenced for their various roles in kidnapping, torturing and enslaving in a filthy basement mentally disabled adults in a case that shocked the nation that came to be referred to as the “Basement of Horrors” case.  Among them is a self-proclaimed street preacher named Eddie “the Reverend Ed” Wright, who was just sentenced to 27 years in prison.

The four defendants were charged with 196 counts after police rescued four people from the basement in October 2011.  In addition to Wright, Nicklaus Woodard was also sentenced to 27 years on Tuesday, as well as Jean McIntosh who was sentenced to 40 years, her mother Linda Weston, who was the ringleader of the group and received a sentence of life plus 80 years.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

A fifth defendant, Greg Thomas, who was Weston’s former boyfriend, still has federal charges pending.

The utter vileness of what took place was all in an attempt to steal more than $200,000 in government benefits.

Fox News reports:

Prosecutors said the five defendants coerced and pressured some of the mentally disabled captives into making Weston their designated payees for their benefits. They shuttled the captives between several states to avoid being caught, and often locked them in basements, closets and other confined spaces, feeding them minimal food often spiked with sedatives.

At least one of the captives testified she was forced to have children with another captive. She said Weston and her daughter took her child and told her he had died, but later claimed the baby was theirs to collect more benefits.

“The physical and psychological pain inflicted on the victims can only be described as pure, unadulterated torture,” said U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain, adding that the sentencings meant “justice has finally been served.”

“Now it’s their turn to be locked away in a dark prison cell,” he added.  “My Office will do everything in its power to ensure each of them serves every second of the sentences the court imposed.”

Sadly, McSwain is 180 degrees wrong when he says “justice has finally been served.”

In the matter of kidnapping, the Bible says those involved should be put to death.

Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death. Exodus 21:16

If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. Deuteronomy 24:7

These verses point back to the command not to steal (Exodus 20:15).  However, merely stealing a piece of property renders a lesser punishment, which is restitution.  Yet, when one kidnaps another person man in the image of God in such a manner as these people did, there is but one punishment, death.

The irony in all of this?  The kidnappers stole these people for money.  The government now will avoid true justice, the death penalty, and will take money from these peoples’ victims and the rest of the taxpayers of this country, while holding their property hostage in order to obtain said taxes, in order to pay the prison industrial complex to feed, clothe and house these criminals.  Does that sound like justice to you, America?

It’s neither justice for the criminal nor for the victims.  In fact, it’s an injustice all of them and an injustice to those of us not involved with the crime, but will be fleeced so a corrupt government can feel good about putting them in a cage without rendering true justice.

Before you whine at me about how cruel the death penalty is, take it up with God.  He’s the one who imposed it, and furthermore, He carries it over into the New Testament through the words of the apostle Paul that were written under the inspiration of the same Spirit that moved on Moses to pen the Law.

Those in authority are God’s ministers and as such, they should be executing justice, not injustice.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. -Romans 13:1-4

The prison system is the result of people turning away from God’s law, manufacturing their own laws and own schemes of justice, which are neither law nor just.  If we want to protect liberty, we must have a return to the Word of God and true justice in our nation once again.
