Socialism: Feces By Any Other Name

Once upon a time in the land of political systems, a botched abortion and a dumpster fire had a baby, and a train wreck delivered it. They named the baby “socialism,” and it went out into the world to seek its fortune. Over time, socialism gathered many followers, some who sought to employ its ideas in order to exploit others, and many more who were willing to be among the exploited.

By the end of the 20th century, socialism had been responsible for the deaths of nearly a half-billion people worldwide, with many hundreds of millions more maimed, traumatized and enslaved. It subverted many nations culturally to a positively obscene degree and very effectively systematized the theft of money from those who earned it honestly.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Now, one would think that with a track record like that, any population of thinking people would be vehemently opposed to political philosophies that even remotely smacked of socialism – particularly those with a history encompassing a love of liberty.

But this has not been the case in America. Far from it, in fact.

In a recent primary election in New York City, Democrats in the Bronx-Queens district chose a cute li’l 28-year-old socialist named Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for their congressional seat in a major upset for veteran Democratic Rep. Joseph Crowley. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez (an acolyte of the once-avowed communist Bernie Sanders) is not only a socialist, but an unabashed socialist – meaning that she doesn’t hide the fact, as so many progressive Democrat and Republican lawmakers have been wont to do.

Ocasio-Cortez became an immediate leftist rock star and took to eager media venues, espousing all manner of far-left policies, such as free college tuition and a $15 minimum wage. The fact that her eyes glaze over and she abruptly transforms into Lennie Small from ”Of Mice and Men” when asked how these things might be paid for hasn’t done much to diminish her rock-stardom.

Many leftists, and many of those in the press, have taken Ms. Ocasio-Cortez bursting onto the scene as a sign that the ascendancy of hard-line socialism on a widespread scale is nigh, much like when Rev. Al Sharpton claimed it was clear that voters wanted a socialist America when they elected Barack Obama.

All at once, discussions showcasing “democratic socialism” became all the rage.

Other progressive politicos have been reticent to join the cult of Ocasio-Cortez and democratic socialism – at least publicly – and have even made attempts to attenuate the excitement of the left at large. They are doing this because they know full well that Americans most certainly do not want a socialist America, and how American voters are capable of reacting when those on the left behave as though they’ve just been given the keys to the kingdom. Case in point: The unrestrained deportment of the Obama administration and its surrogates in this area was the primary catalyst for the election of Donald Trump – to the political left, probably the worst thing that has occurred since the Great Flood.

Most readers will already be aware that Americans don’t want a socialist America and that popular support for President Trump’s policies is rock solid. Still, given the political power the left has amassed, they obviously have to be taken very seriously.

Given the dark and malevolent history of socialism I referenced in the first couple of paragraphs, I deeply regret that more Americans and political power players did not support truly draconian measures to stultify the growth of leftism in the early part of the last century. The reason this did not occur was, of course, the fact that by then, there were already progressives and closeted socialists ensconced within our government and other influential positions.

In an ideal America – at least, in my view – those harboring anything resembling socialistic values would be as afraid to espouse them as one might be to stand up at their local town hall meeting and advocate for the age of consent being reduced to 4, or for a return to enslaving blacks. Convoluted First Amendment arguments pertaining to socialists having a right to free speech in this area are specious, since saying and doing are two vastly different things – and when socialists “do,” people are often murdered, maimed, traumatized and enslaved.

Socialism isn’t always as apparent or as gruesome as it was in the former Soviet Union, Nazi Germany or Maoist China, which makes it difficult for a lot of people to see the parallel between those regimes and what people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are pushing today. However, socialist governments can kill off millions of people very handily through programs of socialized medicine and sow civil unrest through the importation of disruptive, violent scum – and evidence for the economic enslavement of citizens in socialist nations is, for most of us, but a mouse click away.
