For Once, A State That Might Actually Uphold The Second Amendment

Just for a change of pace, here’s an example of elected officials governing according to the will of the people. is reporting that the State of Idaho is just one house floor vote away from legalizing permitless concealed carry of firearms in that state. Last Monday, the Senate State Affairs Committee approved the measure. Then the Idaho Senate passed the bill 27-8 on Tuesday. Majority Leader Bart Davis, R-Idaho Falls, who lost a son to gun violence in 2003, stood as the lone Republican to oppose the bill on the floor.

All Senate Democrats voted against it.

State Rep. Tom Loertscher, R-Iona, will carry the bill on the Idaho House floor this week.

Not to be outdone, New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s gun-control group attempted to derail the measure. Last Sunday, the New York-based Everytown for Gun Safety placed a full-page ad in the Idaho Statesman, the State’s largest newspaper; in it they urged legislators to reject the bill and continue mandated permits.

“Besides the full-page newspaper ad, legislators also paid small heed to lobbying from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, an Everytown offshoot.”

Gotta love those lefty spin-off groups, yes?

The concealed-carry bill wouldn’t dismantle the permitting system, according to Instead, it will allow law-abiding citizens over the age of 21 to conceal-carry firearms without a permit, throughout the state, whether within or outside of city limits. “The proposed law would require Idahoans between 18 and 20 to take a training course and secure a permit before they could carry concealed weapons within city limits. They would still retain the right to conceal-carry firearms without a permit outside of city boundaries.

Federal law prohibits 18-to-20-year-olds from purchasing handguns.”

As an aside – and I know you’ve heard this from me before – the federal government is not empowered to restrict firearms ownership. At all. To anyone. They continue to do so because the relevant arguments have never been argued in court.
