Syrian Refugees Resettling in the US under Trump at more than Twice the Rate of Obama

“Bad, bad things are gonna happen,” –President Donald Trump on Syrian refugee resettlement at August 2016 rally

More than 1,400 Syrian refugees have been resettled in the united States, according to State Department figures, which is more than double the 625 Syrian refugees resettled under Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah in during the same time in 2016.

The Daily Caller reports:

The president has admitted about a third fewer refugees from all nations than Obama’s State Department did in this time span, as he has resettled 10,565 refugees so far and Obama resettled 14,841. Syrian refugees, however, were a particular focus of President Trump’s when he was running for office.

As president he signed executive orders temporarily halting refugee admittance from all nations, with the first one he signed banning Syrian refugee resettlement indefinitely. However, both of these actions were halted by the courts.

After the first order was blocked by a Seattle judge, Trump tweeted, “77% of refugees allowed into U.S. since travel reprieve hail from seven suspect countries.” (WT) SO DANGEROUS!”

As of Wednesday, 44 percent of refugees have been from these “seven suspect countries” (Iran, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Iraq, and Somalia).

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

While the Justice Department appeals the two rulings, the Trump administration should have ignored them and went on to do what he is authorized to do and challenged the courts to enforce their ruling against the law and his order.

“Due to a variety of factors, including the ongoing litigation and uncertainty regarding future funding levels, we are not in a position to speculate as to the final number of refugees that will be admitted by the end of this fiscal year,” a State Department spokesperson told the DC.

However, Ann Corcoran at Refugee Resettlement Watch pointed out on April 13, 2017 the following:

It has been 4 weeks since President Trump announced his 120-day “moratorium” on refugee resettlement as part of the court-halted Executive Order.  And, for the umpteenth time, I repeat that the President did not have to even announce any “moratorium” or put it in an Executive Order!  He has the power to simply stop the processing!

GW Bush loved refugees, yet at this rate Trump will bring in more refugees than Bush. Bush’s average is about 58,000. At the rate of admission for this past week, Trump will surpass that number. Trump has already passed Bush’s lowest year (2003) of 39,554. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2017/01/27/trump-watch-is-rumored-refugee-cap-reduction-to-50000-that-significant/

Then on March 30th we were stunned to learn that they were aiming to bring in 900 refugees a week through the remainder of the fiscal year that ends on September 30th.

If he and Tillerson keep that pace they will admit around 60,000 this year which is near the average number we have admitted since 9/11.

Do they think we are not watching?

George Bush loved refugees and he averaged under 60,000!

While the courts have reversed parts of Trump’s executive order, his decision to lower the number of refugees from 110,000 to 50,000 in FY2017 remains in effect.

The State Department has alerted resettlement agencies that refugee arrivals will soon end, and refugee resettlement agencies have begun laying off staff.

Since Trump was inaugurated, 10,654 refugees from different nations have been resettled in the US.  Some claim this is not Trump’s.  One commenter at One News Now wrote, “Trump certainly can’t take the blame for the influx as long as he’s continually fought by idiot sympathizers and incompetent politicians, so…”

Congress had legislation introduced by Rep. Rivan Babin (R-TX), which had 72 co-sponsors that would have prohibited refugee admittance until Congress passed a joint resolution that allowed such admittance.  However, like many good pieces of legislation, it died in committee.

Well, let’s be frank here, what are the courts going to do if Trump directs the State Department to ignore the court rulings and do what he says, which is only enforcing the laws that Congress has written and were authorized to write under the Constitution?  Nothing.  They will whine and complain, but what will they actually do?  Nothing.

What I don’t understand is an unconstitutional act like firing 59 missiles into Syria without Congressional approval and without any real evidence that Assad had used chemical weapons on his own people, but not ignoring and unconstitutional ruling from a judge on this matter.

So, in my opinion, this is where a president needs to simply know the Constitution and act accordingly.  Sadly, too many people are still playing politics in the Trump administration on this issue and we’re going to be facing similar results to Obama on this refugee resettlement program as long as it persists.
