In the wake of the horrific attack on a church this past Sunday in Texas, the media was in the Lonestar state to speak with civic leaders about the tragedy.
One of the first questions asked, of course, was about whether or not Republicans would now support gun control measures that would strip law-abiding citizens of their right to carry a firearm.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was one of the leaders that was forced to ask that question and he ridiculed the illogical, crass nature of the query. He pointed out that violence happens every day, and that more often than not, that violence does not include firearms.
“It is an unfortunate thing that the immediate place the media goes after any tragedy, after any murder is politicizing it. We don’t need politics right now. You know, I would note in New York, we saw a terror attack just this week with a truck. Evil is evil is evil. And will use the weaponry available.
One of the most inspirational aspects in the face of this horror was that an ordinary citizen stepped forward to engage the gunman. Heard about what was happening and just in the moments that it transpired, went got his own rifle and engaged the gunman in an active gunfire.
I’ve toured the crime scene just a few minutes ago. Saw where that private citizen hid behind a car and took incoming shots from the gunman behind him, and — because of that individual’s bravery, shot the gunman. And as a result, stopped this murder spree.”
When the reporter pushed, wondering if our gun laws needed to be changed, Cruz hit back perfectly.
“It is predictable. There is a reason why there is public distrust of the media. Because the immediate focus is on a political agenda of gun control. I can say this. The private citizen who used his own rifle saved lives today. This individual was a sick, deranged murderer.”
He’s right. And anyone with any shred of intellectual honesty would immediately be able to recognize the truth in his words.
Sadly, no one on the left or in the media (but I repeat myself) is intellectually honest, nor do they care to pretend to be.
So, instead of considering Cruz’s argument with the care that it deserves, the left will simply ignore his comments and continue to blame conservatives, Republicans, and the NRA when criminals commit crimes.
It doesn’t seem to matter to them that every mass shooter is already breaking a host of other laws, they still pretend to believe that one more law will stop these lawbreakers from committing their horrible crimes. Sure, it’s an insane bit of logic… but it’s all the left has and it helps them to push their anti-freedom, pro-government policies. Which is why they don’t seem to care that it makes no sense.
