The Call of the Watchman

. . . men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do. . .  –1 Chronicles 12:32

Ezekiel’s call may be your call.  The prophet Ezekiel was called of God to be a watchman for the house of Israel (Ezekiel 3:17; 33:7). The watchmen of the people of the only true God are called of God to warn His people of pending danger—whether it is from their sin from within or from their enemy without.

Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to a wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself (Ezekiel 3:17-19).

God has given clear instructions. The people of Jehovah God—the pastors and rabbis in particular—are to call sin, sin, no matter in whose camp it resides. As the imams of Islam rail from their mosques and rooftops about the “evils” of Christianity and Judaism, the Judeo-Christian community of watchmen remains mostly silent. They are afraid to call the wickedness within Islam sin and an abomination to God Almighty. They are hesitant to call the sinner out of the darkness and bondage of Muhammadism into the light of Jesus Christ.

God loves all people and He loves the Muslims too, and wants them to experience the light of His salvation. As the Apostle Paul expressed to the Christians who were under oppression in Rome: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:14-15).

The watchmen of God have a great and grave responsibility. They are called to warn God’s people of impending doom or attack. If the watchman knows the attack is coming but fails to warn the people, the blood of the people will be on the watchman’s hands. In like fashion, if the watchman sees a man in sin but does not warn him to repent and turn from his sin, then his eternal damnation shall be the responsibility of the watchman (see Ezekiel 33:2-6).

Once again, the Spirit of the Lord needs to come upon His watchmen like it did for Gideon; to blow the trumpet of warning for His people (Judges 6:34). “Shout it aloud, do not hold back,” Isaiah proclaimed. “Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins” (Isaiah 58:1).

As the venerable Apostle Paul said, “if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?” (1 Corinthians 14:8). Where are the blasts of the trumpets and who will sound the alarm?

“To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me?” exclaimed Jeremiah the prophet. “Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the LORD is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it” (Jeremiah 6:10). When the watchmen do speak up, the people better listen or the consequences could be devastating.

I appointed watchmen over you and said, “Listen to the sound of the trumpet!” But you said, “We will not listen.” Therefore hear, O nations; observe, O witnesses, what will happen to them. Hear, O earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law (Jeremiah 6:17-19).

God needs more watchmen—men and women—who will stand up bravely in the power of His might to warn the people of the land that we are headed toward calamity and future destruction if the Church does not stand up to onslaught of anti-Christ Islam and call its followers out of darkness and into the light—the light of Jesus Christ and His Gospel.  Will you heed God’s call and join His team of remnant believers of the Truth?
