She was only 26 years old and a very bright young lady, but on Friday, Bre Payton, a contributor both at The Federalist and Fox News, succumbed to what doctors believe was the H1N1 flu and possibly meningitis.

Publisher Ben Domenech at The Federalist tweeted out on Friday, “I am asking you all to pray this morning for our own @Bre_payton, who is battling a horrible and sudden medical condition.”

He followed up with news of her death.

“Bre has passed. We are devastated. Last we saw her, she was her funny, smart, vivacious self. Now lost to us so suddenly,” he tweeted shortly after the first tweet.

Fox News reports:

Payton, who was based in Washington, was in California this week guest-hosting a show on the One America News Network. On Wednesday, Payton told her Twitter followers to tune in that night to see her on television.

But the next morning, according to the CaringBridge post, a friend found her “unresponsive and barely breathing.”

“She immediately called 911 and Bre was taken to the hospital where she was admitted to the ICU, sedated & intubated, and doctors began working up a diagnosis,” the post said. “After a CT scan and hours of testing, they have determined she has the H1N1 flu and possibly meningitis.”

The Federalist Staff offered a short tribute and obituary to her on Friday:

Bre Payton, our beloved staff writer for The Federalist, passed away on Friday in San Diego, California following a sudden illness.

Bre was born in California on June 8, 1992, to George and Cindy Payton.

She received her high school diploma from the Western Christian High School Private Satellite Program. She graduated from Patrick Henry College in 2015 with a degree in journalism.

Bre joined The Federalist in April of 2015. In the space of just a few years, she became a rising star on cable news, regularly featured as political commentator on Fox News Channel, Fox Business Channel, and OANN.

Bre brightened the lives of everyone around her. She was joyful, hard-working, and compassionate, and she leaves behind friends and colleagues for whom she brought nothing but sweetness and light.

Though we are heartbroken and devastated by Bre’s death, we are comforted in the knowledge that she was a woman who lived a life marked by deep Christian faith, trusting in her Savior, Jesus Christ – in the God who promises the way our story ends is that “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.”

Bre is survived by her parents, George and Cindy; siblings James, Jack, Christina, and Cheekie; and boyfriend Ryan Colby. Her family would appreciate privacy and your prayers as they grieve this loss.

Speaking of her journalism degree, Patrick Henry College tweeted out, “We were surprised neither by her success nor the impact she had on the people she encountered.  That’s just who she was.”

There is one thing that has not come up in all of this and something that does make me question her death, did she or did she not receive a flu vaccination?  This is not a political issue, but a health one, and I do wonder if the young lady had received one and if it is possible that it may have contributed to her untimely death.
