Huckabee failed to do research before making fallacious claims.
It is plainly obvious that lies, fabrication, and deception are de rigueur for the Trump administration and its appointees. Beyond Trump’s numerous daily fantasies and misrepresentations, we have his ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, concocting sundry falsehoods to make Israel appear to be something it is not. Last month, Huckabee said:
The people who say, “I hate Israel. I want nothing to do with it.” Okay, fine. Give up car navigation, give up your cell phone, give up the thumb drive. Oh, and by the way, let’s throw in: give up seedless watermelon, cherry tomatoes while you’re at it.
Huckabee failed to do research before making these claims. Let’s begin with the claim Israel invented car navigation.
In 1981, Japan introduced the first in-car navigation and commercial map-based navigation systems, known as the Electro Gyrocator, an inertial guidance system were introduced by Honda and Alpine. The first navigation system was pioneered prior to GPS satellites and navigation systems in vehicles today. GPS satellites, put into orbit primarily by the United States Defense Department, were not operational until the 1990s.
Waze Mobile Ltd., formerly FreeMap Israel, a subsidiary of Google, later developed satellite navigation software. Waze was founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Ehud Shabtai, Amir Shinar, and Uri Levine, veterans of Unit 8200, an Israeli cyberwarfare unit targeting Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Critics accuse the unit of intentionally targeting civilians as part of the Dahiya Doctrine, an initiative engaged in the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the massacre of Palestinians.
The first handheld mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper, an engineer at Motorola. While it is true Cooper is Jewish, he is by no means an Israeli, or did he work for an Israeli company. He made the first public cellular phone call on April 3, 1973, in New York City, using a prototype device.
There is an online rumor that Israel invented the cell phone, but it is not true. Motorola’s Israeli research and development teams did contribute to later mobile phone technologies and hardware refinement, but they were not associated with Cooper.
As for the USB thumb drive or memory stick, it was invented by Dov Moran, an Israeli businessman, electrical engineer, inventor, investor, and writer. Moran is considered a prominent Israeli hi-tech leader.
Seedless watermelons, a scrambling and trailing vine-like plant cultivated worldwide, were invented over 50 years ago in Japan. O.J. Eigsti, a leading researcher in the United States, popularized the plant. Eigsti was one of the founders of the “American Seedless Watermelon Corporation,” which developed several seedless varieties.
Israel claims to have developed the cherry tomato. However, the edible berry was actually introduced by the Jewish-owned and operated British retailing giant Marks & Spencer, headquartered in London. In the 1970s, Israeli scientists Nachum Kedar and Haim Rabinowitch of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem were credited by Jews and the Israeli government with “inventing the cherry tomato.”
The statements above are simply the most recent fabrications presented by Huckabee. In February, during an interview with Tucker Carlson, Huckabee reiterated the misleading assertion that Israel was attacked by Arab forces in 1956 and subsequently in 1967.
In 1956, the Suez crisis was caused by a British-French-Israeli invasion of Egypt. The war began on October 29 when the Israeli Air Force attacked Egyptian positions in the Sinai, not the other way around.
The Six-Day War began on June 5, 1967, when the Israeli Air Force launched a surprise attack on Egypt’s airfields. The Israelis justified this as a preemptive strike to avert an imminent invasion by Egypt. However, in 1982, during a speech to the National Defense College, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin acknowledged that Israel had initiated the conflict.
Finally, during the interview, Huckabee asserted that the Zionist war on Gaza resulted in a “lower number of civilian casualties” compared to any modern urban conflict. In fact, in absolute civilian deaths, Gaza is among the deadliest recent conflicts for civilians, especially given its small population and short time frame.
UN Women reported that more than 71,200 people were killed in Gaza from October 2023 through December 2025. However, they cautioned that this figure is probably an underestimate due to the collapse of health and reporting systems. According to the United Nations, women, children, and older individuals accounted for more than half of the recorded fatalities. As of May 2025, approximately 83 percent of the Palestinians who lost their lives were civilians.
Huckabee, as an evangelical Christian, is viewed by many as the Israeli ambassador to the United States due to his unapologetic defense of Zionist war crimes, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, rape of detainees, and numerous long-standing violations of United Nations resolutions and international law.
Since the start of the second Trump administration, falsehoods and misrepresentations of reality have become commonplace. Trump’s daily fabrications and delusions expose his cognitive decline and dementia, which, if Congress were less cowardly, would serve as sufficient grounds to invoke the Twenty-fifth Amendment, designed to remove a president who is incapacitated.
