There Are A Lot of Wrong Paths to Take in Life…Make Sure You Find the Right One!

I heard a man once say, “There’s a lot of wrong paths to take in life.”  He wasn’t a philosopher or some famous author, he was just a man riding on a bus.  Wow, what a profound thing to say, and how true it is.

There are a lot of ways that a person can get off track in life.  There are temptations, your own desires, and much more that can get you off the path.  There is a broad way and there is a narrow way.  Many choose to go on the broad path, but very few choose the narrow and difficult way that leads to life.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Matthew 7:13-14 says,

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

People want to live their own lives, do things their own way, make their own decisions, and live selfishly, for the most part, the way they want to. Rarely does God ever come into the equation.

When your heart is converted unto Christ and you become a new creation in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17), your life is not your own anymore, but His.  The sad part is few people realize that the path they are on right now is leading them straight to Hell. You may be one of those people, for “few” find the narrow way and “few” are really soundly saved.

You may say, “Well I go to church, I’m okay. I try to live a good life,” or you might be one of those who say, “Well my good deeds far outweigh my bad deeds.”

Try that in a court of law. Let’s say that a rapist and murderer stands in front of a judge to receive sentence for his crimes and says, “Judge, I might have raped and murdered that woman, but I’ve done many other good deeds in my life that far outweigh my bad.”

What is the judge going to do? Will a good judge let him go? Of course not and neither will the Lord let you go! Why? Because He is a good judge!  You have broken the Law of God (The Ten Commandments – Exodus 20). You have smashed them into a thousand pieces! James 2:10 says,

“For whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

If I wrote the Ten Commandments on a mirror, gave you a hammer and then said, “Just smash the one you broke,” you could not do that without shattering the whole mirror! The same is true with the Law of God.

You might say, “Well, I’ve never raped or murdered anybody, I’m not as bad as that.”  What you don’t understand is that in God’s eyes you are.

Have you ever told a lie? The Bible says in Proverbs 12:22, “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord…”

Have you ever hated someone?  The Lord says that’s the same thing as murder.  “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him” (I John 3:15).

Have you ever put someone or something else a head of the Lord? Then you are an idolater in God’s sight by breaking the First Commandment (Exodus 20).

In breaking the Commandments of God, you have chosen the broad way and in making an “idol image of God,” who doesn’t mind you doing all these things, you’ve broken the Second Commandment as well!

The Christian walk is not easy. In fact, it’s hard and there are many paths you can take that will get you off course. It is filled with trials, temptations, persecutions, and more.  It is not the popular road or the road that is most desirable, but it is the road that leads to life. It is the road that leads to Heaven and life eternal with Christ the King!

No other path you can take in this life is worth death and eternal damnation in hell. You may think you are having a good time now, but in the end it will not be worth it. No sin is worth going to hell over.

So, as you contemplate where you are in your journey and which path you find yourself on today, remember, strait, narrow, and difficult is the way that leads to life…few there be which find it. Find it! It will be worth every ounce of struggle and hardships you endure in this life, to get there in the end.
