There’s Something Fundamentally Wrong With Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee

“I have been a leader in human and sex trafficking.”

It’s not just Biden. There are members of Congress who seem mentally incapable of discharging the duties of their office. Having free and open elections has meant that we seat people who are clearly not all there, like Rep. Hank Johnson, who worried that Guam was tipping over, or the all-time record champ, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: currently running for the mayoralty of Houston.

She once asked whether the Mars Pathfinder would be able to find “the flag the astronauts planted there before”. In remarks to Congress, she pontificated that, “today we have two Vietnams, side by side, North and South, exchanging and working.” And she complained that hurricane names were too “lilly white” and urged that “all racial groups should be represented” proposing Hurricanes “Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn”.

The mayoral race offered more classical ‘Sheilaisms’ for the record books.

“Sheila Jackson Lee wants to come home to be your mayor for the city of Houston,” she said, speaking of herself in the third person in the manner of fictional characters and mental patients.

Then she finished with the ominous call, “let the fire start now.”

When the Houston Chronicle asked her why she was running, she replied, among other things, that, “I have been a leader in human and sex trafficking.”

And then her campaign finally made national headlines with an ad urging voters to cast their votes on December 7th, instead of December 9th.

Sure, it’s well known that her staffers hate her, but it’s hard to know if this is internal malice or incompetence.

What is Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee actually qualified for? It’s hard to say. She’s not qualified for either her current job or the one she’s running for.

Maybe there should be some mental competency test for members of Congress, not just presidential candidates. Things like state the outcome of the Vietnam War, the planet that human beings walked on and name the date of the election you’re running in.
