Lying has been making the headlines the past several weeks. We’ve seen NBC anchor Brian Williams suspended for lying about a wartime story, as well as lying in a Hurricane Katrina report. How about the Imposter’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, admitting in a new book that Obama lied all along during his first-term election campaign about his position on sodomite un-marriage. He was for it all along, but lied to get black Christians to vote for him (which, by the way, they did in droves). Don’t forget this one: “We will keep this promise to the American people . If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period.” It turns out that was a whopper of a lie as has been admitted by another adviser to the imposter. So much so that if he were that wooden puppet, his nose would be ten feet long.
Then there is that other White House wannabe, Hillary, and her flagrant falsehoods surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012 Benghazi attack, as well as her bizarre recounting of non-existent “sniper fire” at an airport landing in Bosnia in 1996. Oh, and then there is the Whitewater scandal, her “cattle futures” windfall, and on and on her list grows.
Which Candidate Do You Support in the Republican Primaries?
We discover that the lies seem endless as “many elements of the Obama administration have engaged in lying on a level that goes beyond “politics.” It is a deliberate attack on science itself when the EPA, NOAA, and NASA actively engage in distorting data to say that the Earth is warming when it has been in a well-established cooling cycle for 19 years at this point.” The encouraging thing about this is that lying is still news – at least when you get caught. People still react with disgust, people still expect the truth from politicians and news anchors, even after being lied to again and again.
Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785, wrote, “He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.” I pray Americans would not grow so accustomed to the lies told by the imposter, his administration, and other talking heads that we are told to highly regard, that we lose or sense of moral outrage. Lying is a violation of the Ninth commandment.
God’s Thoughts – to gain an understanding of the Ninth Commandment, let’s consider several passages of Scripture. The Ninth Commandment repeated – Leviticus 19:11 “Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.” Interesting the linkage made here between stealing and lying, as they often do go together. The thief will often tell lies to cover up his larceny; he will deal falsely in any way that inures to his advantage. This is Gods’ clear commandment. So what do we hear from Him when people violate His command?
God rejects liars – Psalm 101:7 “He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.” Or as Revelation 21:8 states, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
What the Lord hates – Proverbs 6:16-19 “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
What God calls an abomination – Proverbs 12:22 “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.” Now abomination is a strong word. Webster’s 1828 dictionary has this definition:
“1. Extreme hatred; detestation.
2. The object of detestation, a common signification in scripture. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord.
3. Hence, defilement, pollution, in a physical sense, or evil doctrines and practices, which are moral defilements, idols and idolatry, are called abominations. In short, whatever is an object of extreme hatred, is called an abomination.” So “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord:”
Let’s not take our modern culture’s acceptance of lying, lying down. Jesus taught that we should always pray and not lose heart. Revival begins with our own lives getting right with God, repenting of sin and praying for the lost all around us.

Thinking About Lying
