Trump Blocks Release Of Democrat Memo

Is it just politics at play here or is this something similar to what Democrats have done before.  They aren’t too good at real national security issues, as evidenced by former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and former Vice President Joe Biden concerning Navy SEAL Team Six, and the downing of Extortion 17.

With that said, while President Donald Trump has released the FISA memo that was authored by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), he has decided not to release the memo from the Democrats, which was authored by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Trump called the memo “very political.”

“The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency. Told them to re-do and send back in proper form!” Trump tweeted.

Schiff responded, “Mr. President, what you call ‘political’ are actually called facts, and your concern for sources and methods would be more convincing if you hadn’t decided to release the GOP memo (“100%”) before reading it and over the objections of the FBI.”

“After ignoring urging of FBI & DOJ not to release misleading Nunes memo because it omits material facts, @POTUS now expresses concerns over sharing precisely those facts with public and seeks to send it back to the same Majority that produced the flawed Nunes memo to begin with,” Schiff added in a tweet late Friday.

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) agreed with Schiff saying, “The president’s double standard when it comes to transparency is appalling.  The rationale for releasing the Nunes memo, transparency, vanishes when it could show information that’s harmful to him.”

However, none of that would deter Trump from saying “No.”

In a February 9 letter penned to Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Devin Nunes, Donald F. McGahn II, Counsel to the President, wrote that the second memo that was voted on by the committee to be released was going to be denied declassification.

“Consistent with the review of the previous memorandum, the President asked the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Justice to assess the declassification request and provide him recommendations,” McGahn wrote.  “The Department has identified portions of the February 5th Memorandum the disclosure of which it believes would create especially significant concerns for the national security and law enforcement interests.”

A letter from the Deputy Attorney General and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation was also included to explain the details of the assessment.

“Although the President is inclined to declassify the February 5th Memorandum, because the Memorandum contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages, he is unable to do so at this time,” the letter continues.  “However, given the public interest in transparency in these unprecedented circumstances, the President has directed that Justice Department personnel be available to give technical assistance to the Committee, should the Committee wish to revise the February 5th Memorandum to mitigate the risks identified by the Department.”

So, all is not lost here.  If the committee revises the memo to protect actual national security issues in it, President Trump is more than happy to release the document.

The letter concludes, “The President encourages the Committee to undertake these efforts.  The Executive Branch stands ready to review any subsequent draft of the February 5th Memorandum for declassification at the earliest opportunity.”

Interestingly, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange responded to Trump’s tweet with what we all now have confirmed and want to see happen.

Did Hillary Clinton mishandle classified info? Yes.

Did Hillary Clinton obstruct Justice? Yes.

Did Hillary Clinton take bribes? Yes.

Did Hillary Clinton make up the Russian hoax and provide info to Steele for fake dossier? Yes.

Should Hillary Clinton be in prison? Yes.

Trump then followed up with several more tweets.

“According to the , a Russian sold phony secrets on “Trump” to the U.S. Asking price was $10 million, brought down to $1 million to be paid over time. I hope people are now seeing & understanding what is going on here. It is all now starting to come out – DRAIN THE SWAMP!”

“Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new. There is no recovery for someone falsely accused – life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”

Indeed, this is true, but this goes on all the time with no one bringing justice to any false accusers anymore.

He then cited Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch.

“My view is that not only has Trump been vindicated in the last several weeks about the mishandling of the Dossier and the lies about the Clinton/DNC Dossier, it shows that he’s been victimized. He’s been victimized by the Obama Administration who were using all sorts of agencies, not just the FBI & DOJ, now the State Department to dig up dirt on him in the days leading up to the Election. Comey had conversations with Donald Trump, which I don’t believe were accurate…he leaked information (corrupt).”

Outgoing South Carolina Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy said he thought it was “politically smart” on the part of Democrats to leave in sensitive information in their memo.

“I think the Democrats are politically smart enough to put things in the memo that require either the bureau or the Department of Justice to say it needs to be redacted,” said Gowdy.  “Therefore, it creates this belief that there’s something being hidden from the American people.”

Of course, people like Schiff mock such things, claiming that the Republicans left out the very things he included.

I’m not saying it isn’t possible here, but honestly, knowing the DC Democrats, I don’t trust them any more than I tend to the DC Republicans.

Now, the questions remains, will we actually get a revision and see what is in the Democrat memo?  Surely, it can’t take a lot to revise it to release it, and if it doesn’t, the committee could simply use Rule X and release the document anyway.  The people have a right to know who is telling the truth and who isn’t.
