Trump On Being Pushed Into Military Action In Iran: “I Have Doves & I Have Hawks… I Want Both Sides”

President Donald Trump ran on a platform of changing our foreign policy.  Some of that has clearly been done in a different way than previously, though the jury is still out as to whether or not he will succumb to pressure to go to war with Iran.  However, in an interview on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd, and being questioned about whether that pressure was coming from those in his administration, Trump declared that he had both doves and hawks and that he wanted to hear both sides, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Todd asked Trump if he was “being pushed into military action against Iran” by his advisers.

The question seemed to point to Council on Foreign Relations member and advisor to Trump, John Bolton.

“I have two groups of people. I have doves and I have hawks,” Trump said.  “John Bolton is absolutely a hawk. If it was up to him he’d take on the whole world at one time, okay?”

Though Trump was confronted over the fact Bolton was the very guy that ended getting us in the Iraq War under Bush, Trump discounted that by saying, “That doesn’t matter because I want both sides.”

Trump also indicated that he does want to still try and pursue a different approach to foreign policy.”

“I was against going into Iraq…,” he said.  “I was against going into the Middle East. Chuck we’ve spent 7 trillion dollars in the Middle East right now.”

Well, that’s one of many reasons to stay out of the area and to start bringing troops home out of countries that we have no business in.

I can see how someone might want pros and cons from boths sides on a very serious issue such as war.  It certainly isn’t something to be taken lightly, and if you are wanting to full on neo-con warmonger, look no further than John Bolton.

I’m just thankful that, at least for now, Trump has staved off the neo-cons when it comes to Iran, even though he has imposed sanctions on them, which, in itself, is an act of war, like it or not.

As for Bolton, I’ll leave you with Tucker Carlson’s description of Bolton as a “bureaucratic tapeworm” which periodically reemerges to cause pain and suffering.
