In sitting here and thinking about Independence Day and the celebration of our nation’s 244th birthday, there is much to be sober about. Many usual Fourth of July festivities have been changed or canceled altogether, and our nation, as a whole, is in a very different place than it was even a year ago. It is in difficult times that we tend to look back and really appreciate the good ones and it is in these times and always, that we should continually seek the face of our Father.
When we look at our Founding Forefathers who established this great nation, they are heroes. What they did took great bravery and courage and although they weren’t perfect, they fought, bled, and, in many cases, died to establish what we have today. Even under constant threat of their lives from the British and the ever-present thought of being hanged if captured, they never stopped. Keep in mind, we know the outcome of their endeavors and the beautiful nation that was established as a result, but remember, as our forefathers were fighting the good fight of faith, they had no idea exactly what the outcome would be. I’m sure they had their doubts and many around them who gave a dim prognostication as to the possibility of them being truly victorious, but remember, they always looked to God for guidance and just look at what came about because of it. You and I are the beneficiaries of their sacrifice.
Less than 3% of the population established what we have in America today. God never uses a majority to prevail, just ask Gideon, but rather an irate, tireless, minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men, said Samuel Adams. I always like to add “in the hearts of men,” too. True freedom can only be found in Christ, and until we get back to God’s Word with adherence to His laws, we will never see a change in this nation. Unless we, as a people, are willing to truly repent and fight for what is right to establish justice and peace, we will only see dark days ahead. Just think, if we, as a nation, would simply repent, humble ourselves and pray, seek the Lord’s face, and turn from our wicked ways as the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, then God promises to hear from Heaven, forgive our sin and in His mercy, heal our land.
If Americans would come together and fight against injustice, lies in the media and corrupt politicians and return to the foundations this country was established on, the Bible and the Constitution, we would soon see a blessed change.
If you don’t think one man or woman can make a difference, you might want to talk to Moses, Daniel, Esther, or Elijah about that. Have you ever spent the night in a tent with one pestering mosquito? It doesn’t take too long for you to realize the impact that one little bug can have. The same goes for all of us.
One man or woman of God, who is willing to follow the Lord’s commands, can make a HUGE difference. We are never to give up hope; we are never to stop fighting; we are never to say, “I can’t do anything about it!” There is always something we can do; there is always a soul that needs to be saved; there is always a battle that needs to be fought; and there’s always a victory that needs to be won, in Jesus’ name.
Maybe your celebrations will look a little different this Independence Day, but maybe, rather than attending a parade or fireworks, we should read the Constitution, contemplate the future of our nation, see in what applicable ways we can make a difference, and really seek the Lord for the restoration of our nation back unto Him.
Each one of us can make a difference. The only thing stopping us is our own selves. If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) As King David said, “For by Thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.”
There is no obstacle in front of us that the Lord cannot get us through, it’s a promise. The only way that we don’t enter into God’s promises is if we choose to disobey and do nothing. So what will be your resolve? What are you going to do? What future are you going to leave to your posterity? The choice is up to you!
“Happy Independence Day!”
