Will People Go To Hell On Account Of You?

I’ve thought to myself before how I would never want to be a doctor.  The reason I would never want to be a doctor is that I would never want to feel responsible for someone’s death.  For example, if I were to operate on a patient and he or she ended up dying; I would feel responsible and guilty.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not slamming doctors, nor do I have anything against doctors.  I know doctors save lives, and not all deaths can be prevented, but what I’m saying is, I would never want that responsibility laid on my shoulders.  And yet what of the responsibility that you and I have before the Lord?

You and I are responsible for the lives and deaths of people all the time!  Some people on this earth will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell on account of what we do or don’t do.  The opportunity (In many cases) for them to know Christ in truth, is laid to rest upon our shoulders.  Are we faithful witnesses or will they not come to Christ because you didn’t say anything to them about Him?  Or worse yet, will they not come to Christ because of your unfaithful witness?  Will they not come to Christ because of your disobedience, slothfulness or carelessness?  These are scary thoughts to think about knowing that the Lord holds us responsible, way more responsible than any human doctor ever could be.

The Bible says in Ezekiel 3:18-19, “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”  People will come to Christ or not come to Christ on account of you and me.  You might say, “Well, I’m just hoping they’ll see Christ in me by what I do.”  Yes, that’s true, but if you are using that as an excuse not to say anything, then you are a coward, and that is a cop-out.

The Bible says in Romans 10:14, “…how shall they hear without a preacher?”  We are all called to be preachers and witnesses of Jesus Christ.  Faithful witnesses too.  As Catherine Booth puts it in her book Aggressive Christianity, “A false witness on behalf of Jesus Christ is the most mischievous traitor on the face of the earth.”  Will God find you faithful with what He has called you to do, to speak in His name?  Are you getting up early enough, praying long enough, reading hard enough to make sure that not only you are changed, but that you are “…ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear,” as the Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15?  If not, then you need to get right today and start making some changes in your life.  Someone once said, “If you want things to change, then you better do something different” and you and I are going to be held accountable for everything we did or didn’t do in this life.

Are you confident that Jesus will find you faithful when He returns or when you die?  Will you have a readiness and confidence in your heart enough to say when you stand before Him and have to give your account as Paul said in II Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”?  Have you been faithful with the talents and gifts that God has bestowed upon you?  These are all great questions for you to ask yourself.  We are all called to examine ourselves to see “…whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves…” the Bible says in II Corinthians 13:5.  Not for ourselves only, but for everyone that God has called us to reach.  The Lord has shown us in His word what we are called to do, and as we are obedient to Him, He will guide us always. Will you be found faithful on your Judgment Day or held responsible for not warning the wicked?  Think about it!
