Surveillance video capture an intense moment when a gang of three robbers attempted to steal several items from a local smoke shop.  The three criminals were all considered juveniles, but the quick thinking store owner jumped into action, grabbing a sharp object next to his register and using it on one of the criminals, stabbing him at least 7 times.

It all took place at Smokestorm Smoke Shop near the 4500 block of West Sahara Avenue on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m where Johnny Nguyen, owner of Smokestrom Smoke Shop, was working.

Take a look.

“At first I thought they were normal customers and then I realized they had like ski masks on,” said Nguyen. “I had to assume they had a firearm so I just wanted to make sure I could protect myself.”

The full video showed two of these young men with masks over their faces.  When asked why they had the masks on, they ignored the question.

“I asked them first nicely to leave but the guy took my tip jar, which was fine,” Nguyen said. “When they came back and tried to take some more, that’s when it escalated.”

Well, yes, that’s what happens when you let them get away with things.  They are simply emboldened to do it again.

As one of the men grabbed at something on the case, another leaped over the counter and attempted to grab something from the shelf behind it.  That’s when Nguyen reached for a sharp object near the register and attacked the robber, stabbing him at least 7 times as the man screamed, “Stop, please! I’m dead! I’m dead.”

Collapsing to the ground, Nguyen dragged him by the head around the counter to make sure the others were not coming back.

“I remember him saying, ‘Please don’t let me die,’” Nguyen said. “He said he was sorry. By that point, he took off his mask himself. I was trying to get on the phone with the police when he was trying to talk to me. I just ran and wanted to make sure the police and ambulance would get here on time.”

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police told Nguyen that the man was 17-years-old and that they have arrested two of the men, and another is still on the loose.

While Nguyen said that he was “shook” after the incident, he said he would be looking to arm himself with other weapons.  Hopefully, he gets him a reliable handgun.
