In a bizarre string of suicides among New York Police officers, another officer has taken his own life, bringing the total to five officers who have committed suicide since early June.

The NYPD sergeant was discovered by his colleagues around 2 pm on Saturday in his home on Staten Island.

He had not shown up for work and so the other officers went to check on him.

The NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association tweeted about the officer’s death, stating that he was a sergeant but did not provide further details.

“The NYPD mourns the loss of one of NY’s Finest who died by suicide today,” Monahan tweeted. “We must continue to stand together, look out for one another & support our fellow cops during this tragedy. Help is always available—within the department or on the outside. You’re never alone.”

FOX News reported on police suicides.

The NYPD Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information released a statement encouraging officers to seek help if they’re struggling:

“The tragic news today that another member of the NYPD has been lost to suicide breaks our hearts, and is a deep sorrow felt by all of New York City.  To every member of the NYPD, please know this: it is okay to feel vulnerable. It is okay if you are facing struggles. And it is okay to seek help from others.”

“You may not know this, and it may be hard to imagine, but you are not out there all by yourself. More people than you know, who wear the same uniform as you do, share the same doubts and fears and struggles that you do. Seeking help is strength. Talking about your problems is strength. Acknowledging you need a place to turn is strength. There is no shame here — only a promise to provide you with the help and support you need and deserve.”

Previously, we reported on two NYPD officers who took their own lives within 24 hours of each other, on virtually the same days that two former GOP state senators were found murdered in their homes and just days before Hillary Clinton’s brother died.
