Well, it has been the illustration of choice for Second Amendment advocates for years, but especially lately. If all guns were banned, then a murderer will just use something else. A knife, a bat, or rock; anything that can be used to kill will do when murder is in one’s heart. Now, there is an actual event to point to as backup to this reality.
A former Army vet is recovering from stab wounds after putting himself between 16 terrified children and a knife-wielding teen determined to kill at an Illinois public library this week.
“He actually ran into the room yelling, ‘I’m going to kill some people!'” James Vernon told the Pekin Daily Times Thursday.

The young man entered the library determined to kill people. His life is not what he thought it should be, so, he was going to try and destroy as many lives as he could. And is this not the same as all those who have sought to do the same, but had access to a gun?
“I failed my mission to kill everyone,” Brown told police Thursday, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit that accompanied formal charges, including attempted murder.
And is this not what we are producing more and more of in our twisted and wicked society? The Nihilist bent on destruction. With nothing to support real morality, and believing that they are unjustly denied success and happiness, these young murderers are bent on the destruction of all life, even their own.
We can see this attitude in the knife-man Dustin Brown. He told police that he failed to “Kill Everyone.” Is that not revealing? He very well could have meant every person in the library, but, he also could have meant every person living. And this young man is not the only person who has been set out on a path of destruction because of our morality without reason.
This time disaster was avoided, thanks to the quick and selfless action of a retiree.
Brown appeared angry as he focused his attention on the children. Vernon kept his cool and distracted Brown to give the kids a chance to escape.
“I tried to talk to him. I tried to settle him down,” Vernon told the Pekin Daily Times. “I didn’t, but I did deflect his attention” from the kids “and calmed him a bit. I asked him if he was from Morton, did he go to high school. I asked what his problem was. He said his life sucks. That’s a quote.”
This man most likely would not agree, but he is a hero. He placed himself in the way of danger that those who were the real targets could escape. He was willing to sacrifice his life for theirs. And he knows that things could have turned out much worse.
Had he brought a gun instead, “It would’ve been a different story,” Vernon said.
But how much different would it have been had Vernon had a gun? What if when the Knife-man had entered the library and announced his murderous intent, had Vernon shot him dead? No knife wounds, no real fear that the children would be hurt and no surgery. You see, that difference cuts both ways.
I wonder if Obama will visit Vernon and in an emotional speech demand that Congress outlaw all knives? How about background checks to purchase a knife? What would people think of a 48-hour hold on cutlery sets?
Yeah, well gun bans are just as ridiculous.
