Thomas Cooper, 47, was responsible for altering ballots by changing voters’ registered parties, according to the DOJ. He admitted to it, saying it was a joke after the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office conducted an investigation into the matter.

Cooper, who worked for the Pendleton County company, was charged with “attempt to Defraud the Residents of West Virginia of a Fair Election.” Cooper was contracted by the U.S. Postal Service, according to an affidavit.

President Donald Trump and Republican leaders have made election integrity a priority ahead of the November, 2020 election. The Republican National Committee is already pursuing legal action against states instituting sweeping vote by mail orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.
