More than a week after her body was discovered wrapped in a blanket outside her home, the case of the murder of former Republican Arkansas State Senator Linda Collins-Smith has finally produced a suspect, and an arrest has been made.

Arkansas State police, along with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department have arrested Rebecca Lynn O’Donnell, 48, of Pocahontas.

While police have not released the connection between Collins-Smith and O’Donnell, they have confirmed that this is O’Donnell on the right.

A press conference was held to make the announcement of the arrest.

Criminal charges are pending at the moment.

Further information will be released, according to the Arkansas State Police, when they believe it will not compromise the integrity of their case against Ms. O’Donnell.

Linda Collins-Smith’s family released this statement on Friday evening:

This evening our family received news that an arrest was made in connection to the ongoing investigation. We are sickened and upset that someone so close to Linda, would be involved in such a terrible, heartless crime. The family is very confident that the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police will continue to work diligently to bring justice to this case. We would like to thank everyone for the continued prayers and thoughts for our family during this difficult time.

Collins-Smith’ identity could not be confirmed at the scene.

Her murder occurred within just 2 days of former Oklahoma State Senator Jonathan Nichols.

Both had work to fight against pedophiles and human trafficking.  Collins-Smith had even sponsored legislation that would train truck drivers concerning human trafficking to help prevent or bring justice to those who engaged in it.

Both their murders also occurred on the same days that 2 New York Police Department officers were found shot to death, allegedly with self-inflicted gunshots.
