Christian Coach Faces Setback in Fight for Religious Freedom

For most people, there is little if any desire to be noticed. Most people really just wish to be left alone. This is especially true when they have done nothing wrong. This probably is the way that Coach Joe Kennedy feels right now.

As I reported, Joe had the habit of kneeling at the fifty-yard line after every game. It was not something that he announced or told others about. Joe is a Christian and felt that it was proper to take a moment before he left the field. He wanted to take this time to thank God for his answered prayers.

Joe regularly prayed for his athletes, and he wanted to thank God for not allowing his students to be harmed during the game. This turned into an incident, as more and more students joined him. And though Joe never asked anyone to join him, Bremerton District School in Washington State told him that he had to stop.

When Joe refused, they put him on Administrative leave, and Joe sued the schools in an effort to regain his job. This attempt has hit a snag.

Fox reports:

There’s been a legal setback for Joe Kennedy, the high school football coach who lost his job after he refused to stop praying at midfield after football games.

U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton declined to issue a preliminary injunction that would have forced the Bremerton School District in Washington State to rehire Coach Joe while his case is litigated.

Though this is not the end of the road, it makes it an uphill battle from here. Here’s hoping that God will grant success as the coach fights for his job.
