Franklin Graham to Trump on Possible Deportation of Christians to Iraq: “Give Great Consideration to the Threat to Lives of Christians”

Last week,  I reported on the roundup in Detroit of dozens of Christians by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  Since that time, Franklin Graham has spoken out on the rounding up of Christians and possible deportation back to places like Syria and Iraq, calling it “very disturbing.”

President Trump promised earlier this year to prioritize persecuted Christians as refugees and look out for them.  Yet, many believe that sending these Christians back to Iraq is nothing but a death sentence.

After making a deal with Iraq to remove the country from Trump’s travel ban, Iraq agreed to take in deported Iraqi nationals.  Those arrested last week are said to have had criminal convictions, but we are unsure of exactly when those convictions were or what the charges were.

“I find it very disturbing what I have read about Chaldean Christians being rounded up by U.S. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for possible deportation,” Graham wrote on Facebook on Friday.  “I would encourage the president to have someone investigate these cases thoroughly.

“I understand a policy of deporting people who are here illegally and have broken the law,” Graham added.  “I don’t know all of the details, but I would encourage our president to give great consideration to the threat to lives of Christians in countries like Iraq.”

Graham has supported many of President Trump’s policies, including the travel ban.

“Taking action to secure our borders had to start somewhere,” Graham wrote. “Is it perfect? Maybe not, but it is a first step. … I believe the best way to help is to reach out and help these people in their own countries.”

Other evangelical leaders have also voiced their support for Iraqi Christians remaining in the country.

The President of the Southern Baptist Convention’s policy arm, Russell Moore, tweeted, “Let’s also make sure we don’t deport Iraqi Christians, to be slaughtered back in the Middle East.”

Lynne Hybels, co-founder of Chicago-area megachurch Willow Creek tweeted, I just signed this petition to stop deportation of Iraqi Christians. Please add your voice!

While Graham ministers worldwide to Muslims, he is also outspoken of the threat of the religion of Isalm.

“The threat of Islam is dangerous,” wrote Graham following the recent London jihad attacks.

As I reported earlier, some Muslims were caught up in the arrests, as well.

While Michigan has become a home to many Iraqi Christians fleeing persecution, it has also become a haven for the infestation of Muslims.  Dearborn has become utterly Islamic and the Hamtramck City Council has a Muslim majority.  Additionally, Sterling Heights’ residents, most of whom are Chaldean Christians, protested the building of a mosque in their community only to be sold out by the town’s mayor.

I don’t know the background of all those arrested, but it seems to me that America was a place that took in Christians who sought relief from persecution because our forefathers once sought the very same thing when they came and established this country hundreds of years ago.
