“The general principles in which the fathers achieved independence, were the only principles on which that beautiful assembly of young men could unite, and these principles only could be intended by them in their address, or by me in my answer. And what were these general principles? I answer, the general principles of Christianity, in which all those sects were united, and the general principles of English and American liberty…” -President John Adams
Recently, I was told by a friend of mine that an individual that claims to be a preacher had said to a group of people: “I know that many of you listen to Bradlee Dean’s radio show, but if you leave it up to him, the next president of the United States will be Jesus Christ (John 14:6).” I have to say that is one of the greatest compliments that I have ever received in my life (Philippians 1:27).
When I think of the American government that is founded and established upon the Mosaic Institution-Common Law, who is it that I should point my finger towards? Should it be outside of the One that gave that law? It is His government that we are to maintain in this earth as it is in Heaven (Deuteronomy 18:18; Psalm 40:8; Isaiah 42:21). President James Buchanan stated, “There is nothing stable but Heaven and the Constitution.
We receive our rights from God and delegate precepts entrusted to them by “We the People.” We have representatives in our form of government, not leaders. We are to establish His will on this earth as it is in Heaven and if we were to do that, who should we be following here on this earth?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. -John 14:6
Our forefathers were flying flags during the War for Independence that read “No King But Jesus” and “Appeal to Heaven”; and all this was in the process of throwing off a tyrant that would not be ruled by God (Romans 12:21).
In America today, opposite of our forefathers who established this country over 244 years ago, and though men have been warned over and over again by Christ not to be deceived, Christ is the standard (1 Corinthians 11:1), and not to put their trust in the arm of the flesh (Isaiah 30) and we are to follow Him and Him alone we have those that will call themselves Christians all the while driving others to that of cunning and ill designing men whose profession of good deeds do not line up with the exhibition of the corrupt fruit that they bear ( Luke 6:43-45).
Let me warn you of such men: The Bible is clear that those “that forsake the law praise the wicked,” and let me tell you the wicked they praise for they are just like them. The second half of Proverbs 28:4 reads, “but such as keep the law contend with them,” AND CONTEND WE WILL (Jude 3).
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. -Isaiah 8:20
Signer of the Declaration of Independence Benjamin Rush said, “I have alternately been called an Aristocrat and a Democrat. I am neither. I am a Christocrat.”
We are united under God (Psalm 33:12) and divided by man.
Charles Spurgeon, the prince of preachers, told the story of being in Italy on the side of a mountain where he spotted an old church. As he walked, he noticed on stained glass windows all of the prophets of old pointing their finger towards the front of the church. As he got up to the front of the church he noticed a window of Christ where it said “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
That is who we should all be pointing towards in all of our leadings; and that is as we become followers of Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:19).
