Somehow, Tuesday’s elections seem to have triggered some good things in the executive branch. Among those was the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday, and following that is the news that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will no longer overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election meddling following that resignation.
The investigation was being managed by Rosenstein because Sessions had recused himself.
As I reported earlier, Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States.
We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well….
“The Acting Attorney General is in charge of all matters under the purview of the Department of Justice,” said spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores.
According to The Hill, which reported on a pre-planned meeting between Rosenstein and Trump following Sessions’ resignation:
There has also been speculation over whether the president would fire Rosenstein, after The New York Times reported earlier this year that the official had suggested wearing a wire during conversations with Trump and invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the president.
Trump and Rosenstein met after the report, and the high-ranking Justice Department official remained in the position.
Whitaker called for Mueller to “limit the scope of his investigation” in a 2017 opinion piece.
“It is time for Rosenstein, who is the acting attorney general for the purposes of this investigation, to order Mueller to limit the scope of his investigation to the four corners of the order appointing him special counsel,” he wrote.
Looks like Rosenstein wasn’t doing his job. I think it’s time Trump sent him packing too.
However, with that in mind, the Communists at MoveOn.org have threatened protests if Rod Rosenstein is fired.
For nearly as long as FBI special counsel Robert Mueller has been investigating Russian election meddling, activists have been planning mass protests.
Hundreds of protests across the US, organized by MoveOn and other progressive groups, are planned to begin if Trump fires Mueller or deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who appointed him. They would also begin if the president prevents the investigation from being “conducted freely,” MoveOn says.
…
The Special Counsel told Quartz it has no comment on the report; MoveOn, a 20-year old progressive policy and activism group, didn’t immediately respond to questions about the protests.
While Rosenstein has not been fired, MoveOn’s website promises to respond to any “actions that would prevent the investigation from being conducted freely,” including “replacing” Rosenstein. If the actions happen after 2pm, MoveOn’s website says, the protests will occur at noon the following day.
If these groups live up to their threats, their protests would come as Trump faces a new challenge from Congress, after the Nov. 6 midterms handed control of the House of Representatives to Democrats. Democratic party leaders have already vowed to investigate the Trump administration’s alleged corruption and are pledging to investigate any obstruction of the Mueller investigation.
Allowing people to voice dissent with peaceful, orderly protests is one thing, but we all know that these anti-Americans will not be peaceful, orderly or lawful. They will be citing insurrection, something that our Constitution allows for Congress to call up the citizen militia under the president to put down.
