US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was attacked at his home on Friday afternoon, according to local police.

After causing a “minor injury” to Senator Paul, Rene A. Boucher was taken into custody by police.

The Glasgow Daily Times reports:

A Bowling Green man was arrested for assaulting U.S. Sen. Rand Paul at his residence Friday afternoon, causing minor injury, according to a Kentucky State Police news release issued Saturday afternoon.

KSP troopers responded to Paul’s home in Warren County at about 3:21 p.m. Friday in reference to a report of an assault, according to the news release.

Troopers determined that Rene A. Boucher, 59, had “intentionally assaulted Paul causing a minor injury”, the news release said.

Boucher was charged with one count of fourth degree assault with minor injury, and was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

Paul’s spokeswoman, Kelsey Cooper, released a statement Saturday about the incident.

“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” the statement read.  “The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.”

Paul is the second GOP representative to be attacked in the past few months.

In June, he was among several of his colleagues practicing for the annual congressional baseball game in Washington, DC when a gunman opened fire, hitting and wounding Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA).

Scalise returned to Congress at the end of September just prior to the largest mass shooting in US history took place on October 1 in Las Vegas.

Perhaps, some people have taken the sentiments of New Jersey Democrat operative James Devine, who said after Scalise was shot that it was time to #HuntRepublicans.

It will only get worse unless there is justice that is brought to bear among the criminals who engage in this behavior and those who encourage it.
