Trump Shows His Progressive Side on Taxes

Before all of you Trump fans get mad at me, please understand, I am doing this because I am for you and for America.

I am a supporter of the Fair Tax, I’ve signed multiple petitions, written my representatives and even advocated on my personal social media pages. I like the Flat Tax too, but I prefer the Fair Tax. I’ve noticed that many of the readers and commenters agree — the Fair Tax is a good thing and would be the best way for our nation to move forward on tax policy.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

On Monday I learned that Donald Trump agreed – until he changed his mind less than a minute later. In an appearance on Fox & Friends, Trump advocated for tax reforms that would simplify our tax system mentioning both the fair tax and the flat tax as examples. But then seconds later he argued against both and said that he wanted a graduated tax based on income… but this is exactly the system that we currently have in place!

Now, I’ve said enough negative things about Trump over the last few months to know that some of you will think I am twisting his words or attacking him unnecessarily. So, here’s a partial transcript and video from the exchange. Watch as Trump dumps the Fair Tax and the Flat Tax in an effort to keep the system we have in place.

“You can have fair tax, you can have flat tax, you can take the existing plans that we have and simplify… We’re going to simplify; that’s the easiest in terms of getting it done. Later on if we go to a flat tax, that’s something else…

Well, the magic number is a very complicated number. I’ve seen them from 15% to 20%, nobody knows if it works.

The one problem I have with the flat tax is that rich people are paying the same as people that are making very little money. And I think there should be a graduation of some kind. Because as you make a certain amount of money, I think you should have to graduate upward.”

I bolded that last paragraph to point something out. What he is arguing for is exactly what we have in place now. Yes, he may be arguing for lower taxation and that’s good… however, this is simply another example of Donald Trump sticking to the status quo. He’s doing the same thing on Planned Parenthood, sodomy-based “marriage,” even on Obamacare, where he’s argued for us to have a single-payer system like Canada. I know that Trump is supposed to be the anti-establishment candidate, and in some ways he is, but in other ways, he is very much for the current establishment and system.

If you want a guy who is anti-establishment, please consider Ted Cruz. Cruz is for the Fair Tax, he’s against Planned Parenthood, he’s strongly for traditional marriage, he’s already fought with the establishment of both parties on multiple occasions. Cruz is the guy Trump voters wish Donald Trump was.
