Watchdog Group Sues DOJ For Communications between Bruce Ohr, Nellie Ohr, Christopher Steele, & Fusion GPS

Government watchdog group Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuitΒ (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of JusticeΒ (No. 1:18-cv-01854)) against the Justice Department because theyΒ failed to respond to aΒ May 29, 2018, FOIA request for all communications betweenΒ Bruce Ohr, Nellie Ohr, Christopher Steele, and Fusion GPS.

Bruce Ohr is the former Associate Deputy Attorney General and remains Organized Crime Task Force Director, but at the time of his demotion in December 2017, which was related to the Hillary Clinton-funded dossier, heΒ was the fourth-ranked official at DOJ.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Ohr’s wife, Nellie, was also employed by Fusion GPS.

Earlier this year, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA request with the DOJ to obtain:

  • All records from the Office of the Deputy Attorney General relating to Fusion GPS, Nellie Ohr and/or British national Christopher Steele, including but not limited to all records of communications about and with Fusion GPS officials, Nellie Ohr and Christopher Steele.
  • All records from the office of former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce G. Ohr relating to Fusion GPS, Nellie Ohr and/or British national Christopher Steele, including but not limited to all records of communications (including those of former Associate Deputy Attorney General Ohr) about and with Fusion GPS officials, Nellie Ohr and Christopher Steele.
  • All records from the office of the Director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force relating to Fusion GPS, Nellie Ohr and/or British national Christopher Steele, including but not limited to all records of communications (including those of former Organized Crime Task Force Director Bruce Ohr) about and with Fusion GPS officials, Nellie Ohr and Christopher Steele.

Judicial Watch recounts:

In March, Judicial Watch filedΒ two lawsuitsΒ seeking records about the Ohrs’ involvement in the anti-Trump dossier. In June, the DOJΒ was orderedΒ to begin searching and producing Fusion GPS records to Judicial Watch.

In a related case, Judicial Watch released FBI records showing thatΒ Steele was cut offΒ as a β€œConfidential Human Source” after he disclosed his relationship with the FBI to a third party. The documents show at least 11 FBI payments to Steele in 2016 and that he was admonished for unknown reasons in February 2016.

Recently, Republican lawmakers indicated thatΒ Bruce OhrΒ is becoming more central to their investigation. And, newly releasedΒ emails and memosΒ show that Bruce Ohr continued to receive information from Steele in 2017 after the FBI had terminated its relationship with Steele in 2016 for leaking to the media.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the FBI had withheld exculpatory evidence regarding the FISA application to surveilΒ former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The ties of the Ohrs to Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele are certainly something the public needs to be made aware of, and on top of that, the communications that went on between these individuals and anyone at Fusion GPS need to be revealed in this matter.

β€œAs this sordid scandal continues to unfold, it is increasingly clear that top DOJ official Bruce Ohr – working in conjunction with his wife and other Clinton-connected Fusion GPS actors – played a key role in laundering false information from Russia about Donald J. Trump,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. β€œThe DOJ must stop the stonewalling and release these documents as the law requires.”

One would think that since Trump is the head of the Executive Branch that providing these documents would be of paramount importance to him and that he could simply go to the DOJ and demand the documents be turned over and begin removing people until someone actually provides them.Β  That’s how it would work in a world where people were actually interested in getting to the bottom of this and upholding the law.
