During his regularly scheduled press briefing on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer took on a question from a reporter about a CNN report that was released the night before, and demonstrated the deceitfulness and failure to produce evidence by the “very fake news” network.
“CNN reported yesterday that U.S. officials are investigating that associates of President Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” the reporter was querying, asking Spicer to comment.
“The last line of the thing said, ‘The FBI cannot yet prove that collusion took place,” Spicer began. “I think there’s probably more evidence that CNN colluded with the Clinton campaign to give her debate questions than the Trump campaign gave any kind of collusion.
“So I think when it comes down to that reporting it’s filled with a bunch of subjective terms about, ‘This person may have done this, possibly could have done that,’ and at the end of the story if you wade to the very bottom it says, ‘The FBI cannot yet prove that collusion took place,’” he added.
The report being referenced was CNN’s US officials: Info suggests Trump associates may have coordinated with Russians. Now, the story is actually a non-story. Here’s why.
One, we already know that members of the Trump campaign communicated with the Russians. We also know that about the Hillary Clinton campaign too. In fact, we know much more about Hillary and John Podesta’s ties to Russia via bank documents and being a board member of firms linked to Russian investors. So, the fact that there were communications is nothing.
The problem is that CNN is being very careful with regard to how they worded the story.
“The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, US officials told CNN.”
Now, first, CNN claims that these are “suspected” Russian operatives. There is not proof or evidence that they provide. Second, there is only speculation about any communication between associates of Donald Trump and these “suspected,” but unproven, Russian operatives… and that’s in the very first sentence.
So, CNN is, once again, reporting non-news.
The report went on to state that FBI Director James Comey said that the bureau was investigating the matter because he claims they had “a credible allegation of wrongdoing or reasonable basis to believe an American may be acting as an agent of a foreign power.”
CNN then reported, “The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions of FBI counterintelligence investigators that the coordination may have taken place, though officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive and that the investigation is ongoing.”
At least Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rightly addressed the issue rightly.
“This is another piece of information without any sources which can’t be commented on, neither can it be taken as some serious thing,” he told reporters.
Even Spicer chimed in on Comey’s comments on Monday saying, “Investigating it and having proof of it are two different things.”
One wishes that insane Democrats like Maxine Waters would understand this.
What’s most interesting is the final paragraph of the CNN piece.
“US officials said the information was not drawn from the leaked dossier of unverified information compiled by a former British intelligence official compiled for Trump’s political opponents, though the dossier also suggested coordination between Trump campaign associates and Russian operatives.”
Now, CNN admits the dossier is a bunch of “unverified information,” but goes on to state that it was “compiled for Trump’s political opponents. Well, why are they not asking just who those opponents are and why are they not asking about collusion of those opponents, namely the FBI, with Britain to influence American politics? Who will be investigating the FBI over this issue?
Things that make you go, “Hmmm.”
